My B loves to go for walks

Basenji Talk
  • so much that if we are not walking her as much as she thinks we should she will whine, wag her curled up tail, baroo, trot from my husband to either the back door or the fence gate (depending on if my husband is outside or inside) and if none of these work fast enough for her, she starts to jump up on my husband over and over. She is funny to watch…of course she DOES get her way even if we are too tired  then it is a shorter walk. I realize that Bs enjoying walking and they do need the exercise but sometimes it is hard to get up the energy to take her. Jojo is 11 yrs so it is not like she has to be kept under the rule of thumb that "a tired Basenji is a good Basenji". Of course while on the walk she just HAS to smell EVERYTHING sticking above the ground:eek: ...street sings, mail boxes. bushes, trees, fire hydrants, etc...What a wonderful breed!!!:)

I'm afraid If I do decide to get another I won't have a chance to introduce them beforehand as it Will probably be a puppy I bring from the US.. I doubt there will be a problem since she will be a young puppy…

@Forever: I have been looking at him too lol my area my color and he seems sweet and he likes cats too though I can't say my cat will like him. I need to jump in and get my bratt visit done then see what happens. My problem is no fence yet. I know that is a mark against me. It is what keeps me from calling for the visit. We had plans but life happened and no fence again. Zoe seems happy with her daily walks and house play. She doesn't seem to mind being tied outside because we keep her company. I guess when the right time and b happen all will work itself out. But one thing about bratt is my worry about fanconi not sure they are tested. I worry about zoe I dont want that worry with another dog I agree with you… you already know about Zoe... and to adopt another that could be Affected... well, I certainly understand ... and FYI, they are not for the most part DNA tested... it is not something that BRAT requires... I would suppose that if you were interested in a certain dog that you could make that a condition of adoption, that he/she be tested first.... but I have no idea how BRAT would react to that...

Basenjis are affectionate on their own terms… some are, some are not... you need to remember they are an independent, thinking dog, meaning they are always looking for "What's in it for me". Also, since she is new to your home and already a young adult, it will take time for her to warm up to you and show her true feelings. Many Basenjis do not lick and the ones that do are enough to drive you over the edge.ggg... my oldest girl never licks... never has.... except when wet...
