  • I read a post that said to post here and introduce myself, hi my name is Jessica. I have one chi that I think is mixed with the breed. I recently became interested because I got this dog, and I love the look of them, xena looks more like a chihuahua in the face but she has a lot of characteristics that look like a basenji. Please visit my profile, I have attached some pictures and info about her there.
I also have two other pups, a mutt and a teacup chihuahua.

@katzmeow My Grandmother had a Maltese that my Cousin gave to her. That little Dog bit my Grandmother all the time but she refused to part with him. My Paternal Grandmother loved Dogs (which she always had since she married my Grandfather), Cats and she always had a Canary that she called 'Petey! I like all animals but the biting is not good for anyone. The little Maltese lived with the Cousin who gave her to my Grandmother after my Grandmother passed at the age of 97!!! I have never had a Dog, Wolf, or Horse that bit me BUT the Feline I have now (the Killer Cat) bites me all the time. She cannot get me through the Denim but it is really annoying!!! Very sweet dog you have there! A

Hi and welcome! House training with any dog is the same boring work... with an adult it usually takes less time than a puppy because their bladders are able to hold longer, but honestly, it is absolutely necessary to watch, leash to you, crate or outside every second until you have a dog who consistently asks to or goes outside. Every time you mess up, it prolongs training. http://www.clickerlessons.com/index.htm Has training on left, behaviors such as house training on right. Another good one: https://positively.com/dog-behavior/nuisance-behaviors/potty-problems/adult-dog-housetraining/

@youngandtired: Hi! Welcome to the Basenji Forum, this is a great place for chatting about our furbabies, and getting information. So, your baby is 4, please tell me that they will stop chewing, and surfing the tables. My Sahara, would be just great if she didn't do this. I love her just the same, but I have lost things I can't get back that she has chewed. My Basenjis right now range in age from 12 1/2 to 15 3/4…. :p They still surf, however they have pretty much stopped chewing... :D But that is just cause they are old.... and the teeth are not as great!

Hi and welcome! When you let her out, I hope you are out also. Sadly, underground fencing is very dangerous… call the closest 10 shelters to find how many dogs they pick up with collars. They get excited, run through it, then can't come back. Also, while it might normally keep your dog in, it won't keep others OUT. But with supervision, they are GREAT so that they get freedom but you are there if a problem arises.
