Adult Dogs at SW Kennel Auction-3/2/13

Breeder Talk
  • These dogs are for sale at the auction. Is anyone familiar with them or the seller? These dogs could be the sire and dam of your dog. I could only find one in the Basenji Pedigree Database. The database website is: http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com/search.html If you have a dog and it is not in the database, please e-mail Sally Wallis and give her the information needed. This information is especially important if your dog is not AKC registered as it cannot be found anywhere else unlike AKC registered dogs. Her e-mail address is: zandebasenjis@btopenworld.com

Quit buying from breeders who sell their dogs at the auction when they are considered used up or they are unable to sell their pups either to a broker for pet stores or online. They have no interest in improving the breed as in no health testing and are only in the breed to make money. At least one of these dogs came from another auction or the parents did and I am certain that the other two dogs parents also were sold at auctions and I probably saw them and the grandparents many years ago at the auctions. These females probably had litters this past year and some of you may have bought them. If you are buying a puppy, ask the breeder where their dogs were obtained from and how long they have been in the breed. You can ask questions about breeders on this forum.

Yes you can be unlucky with anything, but doing everything you can to ensure a healthy dog should be the top priority. My girl has had blood work every year just as routine after my firsts problems. She has no symptoms, we just caught it on the yearly two years ago she slightly elevated, last year she was more elevated. We first started just Nutramax denamarin, three months later it made no difference to her readings. We switched her to Dr Dobs detox diet and Nutramax denamarin, went back after three months and her levels went up! So now we have her on regular food, denamarin in the morning, milk thistle in the afternoon and twice daily 1000mg of fish oil. Due to go back in February and see if that works. If not we will probably have to ultrasound. All her other blood work is normal so that is a good thing.

There are alot of Amore Kennels (mostly small fluffy breeds, cane corsos, and a few other breeds) but there are no Amore Basenjis as a kennel name. Sooooo i am hoping that is a good enough reason to say i can use it ;) :)

@listeme: Knowing how fast technology changes and improves, I'd be hesitant to sign up for a program like this if I weren't going to be using it in a couple of years or less. Remember VCRs? Cassette tapes? Telephones that attach to walls? :D lol. ya i suppose you all are right. At first i thought about it, but i dont know. I guess its still a good thing if you have to do more than one chip in a dog. and i think they said the microchips are good forever (whether thats possible or not) I guess its still worth it for me, IMO. Since rescue and my personal dogs. I can use that amount of chips (in rescue) within a year or two. So…i think its a good deal. Whether it is or not...

I can just see them in the ring…thinking 'fine don't give me that liver right now...I know if a few hours, you will take that jacket off, and lay it on the bed, and when you go to the bathroom, I will just get it then' envisioning them rubbing their little digits together in a tent like fashion....patience, patience....

One of the main reasons small operation breeders don't use AKC dogs is because a breeder sold them a dog under an AKC limited registration, meaning the dog wasn't intended to be breeding stock, and the breeder intended for the puppy to be neutered when it was old enough. Sometimes people decide they are not going to get the puppy fixed, and will use it for breeding…at that point, any puppies produced from that dog are not registerable with the AKC. But the other registeries will sign those dogs up with no questions asked.
