Wet but tasty

Basenji Talk
  • When you?re living on a ship, you have to deal with all the water..
    So, our Basenji?s too..

Yesterday, a lazy saturday we went to a huge petstore and took the boys with us.
They got a lot of attention, as usual :D (that's the true reason they want to come along shopping)
Some people thought they were so sweet so they gave them some snacks from their own dog :D

We bought two giant sausages and some kitten stuff (we buy too much for the little kitten) and went home
The ride in the car was excellent, the boys were very very sweet.. (I wonder why )
We have to climb over two other ships and they keep looking at me… with their big shiny eyes... (again, I wonder why )
When we arrived at our own ship I turned off the leash and gave them their snack... (still wrapped) I said to them "Quickly! run to the door and go inside and wait for me to unwrap your snack"
They did, Chafuko went first and Buana followed.
Buana waited for me and he was so happy he trew his snack up into the air..
And again, and the third time it flew into the water!!!
Kas took two big ropes (that we use to moor) and try to get Buana's snack back.
In the meantime, I ran inside to Chafuko because he was unwrapping his own snack (I don't want that he eats the plastic)

So both boys hanging over the railing to check if Kas managed to pick up the snack... (very funny to see)

He send me aways because I made him nervous with my Ooohhh and oooowww :D

After some minuts, the boys ran inside with Kas behind them.. He got it!!!

So I unwrapped their snack and after 10seconds it was gone :D :D
(Chafuko was very happy he didn't have to share his snack)

(we are not loaded and the path we walk on is about 2 meters above water level, 2 meters is about one very tall man)

  • Kim, glad everyone got their snacks in the end :D

  • Glad you got your snacks back on deck!

  • What a happy sounding day for everyone! I have seen some documentaries on ship living in the Netherlands. Such an intriguing way to live/lifestyle.

  • haha, what a great story, glad the snacks are safe..in tummies soon I am sure.

  • How funny :D Wonderful story and congrats to Kas ;)

  • What a laugh. I do love to think of your Basenjis livng on a ship - it just shows what adaptable dogs they are!

Hi @Vesna, it’s interesting you say that about the spay. Our tri-color actually just got spayed this week and her coat shed before that. I noticed small amount of black hair growing in where she shed, hopefully it grows back. What phase is your tri-color at? Did this just happen?

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

Senji only likes to roll around in the wet towel that was on my head. He isn't interested in the one that I dried my body off with. He'll scratch on the door and wait for me to put the towel down. He'll roll in it with great glee, and then sniff it, and sometimes roll in it some more.

Magnum doesn't really have a problem with wet surfaces or rain, unless it's really pouring. Not that he wants to stay out there long, mind you. Lenora's story reminded me of a very cold (-3 degrees F, with the windchill way colder than that) day this past winter. I put Magnum's boots on for our morning walk as usual. As usual, he had them kicked off about half-way through the mile walk (with me gathering them up as they came off). Once they were all off (with Magnum grinning from ear to ear, "Got'em off again, Mom! This is a fun game!"), he very quickly started lifting one paw after the other off the cold, frozen ground for a few seconds at a time. Finally, he plopped down in the middle of the dirt road, all four paws tucked beneath him and refused to get up. I had to carry him (all 27 pounds) back to the house a 1/2-mile away. He just wouldn't let me put those boots back on! As he was tucked up in the middle of the road, he looked at me and seemed to say, "I am not moving one INCH! You can't make me! You are tryin' my patience! First you put those sillly boots on my that I gotta get off and now THIS!"
