NEED a male puppy send to Mexico!

    Hey,

    I'm from Mexico City, and I'm certain that the dog I want to be my friend for the next years is a male Basenji. Actually, I would prefer a Tri-color male… but if the puppy is cute I wouldn't mind if he is not.

    There are no proper breeders in Mexico, just families that decide to sell their puppies ocassionaly... but they're really hard to find. Actually... that's a good business opportunity for american and international entrepreneurs/breeders, since I know the market would be willing to accept this breed, whick is somewhat unknown in my country.
    Well.... returning to the point, I joined the forum to look for breeders willing to send dogs to Mexico City.

    Have you been on the Basenji Club of America website? There is a listing of breeders that you could contact and many will place a pup in Mexico. It is a good site to visit and become familar with health concerns in the breed and also how to find a responsible breeder.

    I think Tanza is spot on. Not sure where you are, but the Basenji Nationals are in Tucson in November. Assuming it's possible, I can't think of a better way to find a good breeder than to attend.

    Go to www.basenji.org and search by state. Most likely you can find a breeder that might have or be breeding Black/White...

    It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help. Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available.     Please make sure the puppies you sell are clear of fanconis. Its an awfull illness and no one wants to have a sick dog.

    @tanza: Great to hear…. and so much easier now that it can be done with the cheek swab. Yes, we have given an order for it at our Vet. :)
