I think Jazzy reads this forum….

  • …and she's getting ideas. :(

The last two days my normally very well-behaved lady has been into EVERYTHING!!!!!!!
Digging in closets, pulling up rugs, stealing hairbrushes, tearing pillowcases, eating little plastic army men.

Yup. No doubt in my mind; she's reading this forum.:p

  • you know that is not what really happened. trust me, i have the inside scoop. get this:
your DH has been doing all these things and letting poor jazz take the blame. he is very worried about you wanting another basenji puppy. this is his way of talking you out of it. i know it sounds desperate, but you know how men dont like to compete for attention!

  • Hmmm, I wouldn't put it past the sneaky devil.

Well, good luck to him, then, cuz there is NOTHING that will make me stop wanting another little B!

An intact pair is doable, but if you have a male who is really wanting to be with the female when she is on heat, better prepare your neighbours for some sleepless nights. Some can howl for hours… Besides that, it's just watching them all the time when they are together so no 'accidents' will happen. Getting a dog only to keep your other dog company is what I allways advice against. I've had 2-3-4 dogs together the last years, and from time to time I set up a webcam when I leave home so I can see what they do. I close the door behind me, they jump on the couch or in a basket and they sleep till I get home again. Never seen them play together while I was away. If it is only to keep him some company, why not a cat instead of another dog? Much easier and see cat-dog plays far more over here then dog-dog plays. A better reason to get a another dog, is that you want another dog. With 2 dogs, you also need to train them separate, walk them separate... to keep the bonding between you and the dogs stronger, then the bond between the 2 of them.

I won't be able to make the dinner (and most likely won't attend the National at all due to home issues). So take plenty of pics and regale us with all sorts of stories…and have fun! Oh, and please post results as they are available. More than likely if can make it at all, I'd arrive on Friday and fly out late Sunday. Liyah isn't entered in Sweeps, so I don't need to kill myself to get there on Thursday.

And it really bothers me that people still list Basenjis as "no bark" without also noting they are NOT mute, along with the "no" shed (wrong!!), ….

She looks very sweet, whatever her parentage. We had a lab for 12 years. Sweet mild-mannered dog, a little needy and shed year-round. But great off leash, unlike the curlytails. Labs do tend to be mouthy and need something to chew on more than many breeds, but if she's older (older than 3) she may be beyond that. Either way, good luck with your new friend. Does she have a name yet?

@JazzysMom: Well, it's a good thing we went straight to a breeder! I'd considered BRAT, but decided to get a puppy instead. Good thing, because with six kids at home and lots of other kids in and out, we'd have never gotten a dog! Sad isn't it….
