    Hello everyone…as of 11/20/10..Christopher and I are the proud owners of a Basenji..we adopted her from a shelter the other day..she is 9 months old and was just spayed. Her name is Cambria..very, very friendly dog..and her mischevious sides are already starting to emerge. Due to the fact that she was recently spayed, i will assume with her frequent urination on the floor..this is the cause..i don't want to count out possible UTI..but being such a fresh surgery..i will have to keep an eye on it..she also does her #2 business outside so i'm hoping this is only temporary..but if this should not be the case, I've heard crating is the best approach..being that you others already have a Basenji or more...what is your advice..and what have you found to be great, hardy toys for them..she found the toilet paper roll today..of course my fault..but trying to create good habits..not bad ones :)

    I hope to post pictures in the near future..and I will be checking back here often. I'm not a new dog owner..only to this breed..and as we all know..different dogs, breeds, bring..different personalities..ty for all your help and insight in advance..be talking to you soon!!

    Please note..I failed to mention Cambria isn't a purebred..it was inferred she has a touch of Australian Cattle dog in her blood. Btw, if I'm not mistaken..is there a genetic test that can be administered to determine this?

    Hello! I'm in Tx as well. I crate my Basenji (and my chiweenie for that matter.) I think it gives them a den/safe spot.

    Nayru can deconstruct any toy so far. The best one has been one of those loofah dog toys from PetSmart. That only just got destuffed. :) I just pick up fuzz a lot.

    She loves her beef bone for gnawing on as well.

    Hi, yes ive seen your website, i was inquiring about a basenji female from tazy through Jenni Palmer, but not sure how the lines would work with my boy. My boy is out of Sire Eurabbie Mercedes and Dam Eurabbie Hermione. There have been a few late litters this year if there is nothing to tie in with my boy this year, ill wait till next year.

    Thanks, I will pickup some SAM-E at the store today, I had no idea what dose! I hope Pete has a comfortable time with you, you are doing everything to keep him happy. My friend's mastif-dobie mix has very high liver enzymes, she is 10 and otherwise looks great. She is slowing down, sleeps a lot but has good appetite, etc., he opted for no more tests (at her age, he would not put her through any treatments other than meds). She loved the liver-cleansing diet, is back on regular now and taking Sam-e; like you, he is just hoping for some good quality time with an older beloved dog. Hugs to Pete!

    Hello fellow long time Basenji friend. They are such a joy to live with aren't they? Do share your longevity secrets:D Is it exercise? Food? Dental care? We had our first two for 15 and 16 years, and decided that more tooth brushing could have helped. We want to keep our newly adopted Leo around a long long time.

    Luzambo, I too had one pass last March. After that I was left with one and said once he passed, I was going to be done with dogs – too much of work and emotional strain. Yep, I was going to be free to... well, to do something. Then I found a little girl related to Brie just 2 weeks later and 6 months later I have yet another. Yes, they're a lot of work at times, but so is most everything in life. I love having them around and the house would be often boring otherwise. I'm sure Pharaoh and my Brie are hanging out in their private club looking down on us saying "what are you guys doing down there?" And with a signature like yours, I don't think you'll be waiting long. Welcome to the forum!
