Hello forum friends!

I wanted to welcome everyone to the Willamette Valley Basenji Club's Fall AKC All Breed Lure Coursing Tests & Trials - coming up on October 9 & 10, 2010.

The event will be held at the Misty River Plantation in Cathlamet, WA.

We will be having a potluck each day, so feel free to come participate or watch and have a great time at our event.

We took Mojo lure coursing for the first time a couple of weeks ago- he loved it! There was one lady who said if they ever do actually go after a real animal- say a bird or rabbit- and catch it, they will lose interest in lure cousing- they will want real prey.

NOT TRUE… gggg..... Maggii loved to course... caught and killed 3 squirrels in our yard... never made a difference. Mickii caught and killed 2 ground squirrels on outdoor off lead runs... never made a difference (Oh and add one bird plucked out of the sky)...

C-Me, just a year old now.. loves coursing... at 4 1/2 months caught her first squirrel in the yard and at 7 1/2 months one baby bird out of the sky

What nice runs in what is a very high pressure situation. Happy little basenjis - both of them. Drew reminded me of my kids when he "discovered" the judge in his ring. <gg>I hope Zest! and I can go sometime.

Did Drew's jumping style change when he lost his eye? Just curious about his depth perception.</gg>

Thanks Kim. I am sure you and Zest will one day go. Put it on your 'to do' list. I did. 🙂

Drew's jumping changed dramatically. He used to jump very similar to Feigh but without the overzealous enthusiasm that makes her jump too early sometimes. Once he lost the eye - he started to stutter steps and at 16 inches would crash the doubles and triples. As he gets older and age related changes occur to his remaining eye which had issues related to VF as well, hiis stuttering has gotten progressively worse so I was glad to get the PAX out of the way.

Thanks too Fran and Janneke. Feigh is a once in a lifetime Agility dog for me. 🙂

How did you like running in nice warm GA? We only ran one day of AKC in OK as the rain turned real heavy overnight and continued into the morning, none of us wanted to run our whippets on a slick clay hill. See you in TN next weekend with my 2 boys

I'm going to call the people and find out how to enter them…

If you B has never run, then you need to do practice first… and if ASFA Trial they need to be certified and AKC then need a JC certificate before they can run. Some ASFA trials have "singles" that you can enter in and they run by themselved.

Also even if your B has run before, but not with you as handler, I would still suggest that you go, see what a trial is all about etc... and just do practice until you are comfortable that you can catch your B at the end of the course
