I want my basenji to have an African name, so I searched African names via Google. Most of the sites tell you what African language the name is from and what the name means. It was an enjoyable process!
Need A Full name for papers!

My dog is a 2 year old Black and White Basenji. I just found his papers tucked away in a box in my closet from when I moved. I haven't sent them in yet. On it requires a long name. Like a registered name. His call name is Anubis. I have NOOO idea what to put as his registered name. Any Ideas??

Ususally the breeder will help with the name as most times the name begins with the breeders kennel name. Some breeders use a theme for their litters, some take parts from the pedigree. Some do a play on words.
Example my Tri Girl C-Me's registered name is Klassic (Breeders kennel name) Tanza (my kennel name) Color me Tri (for a play on the Tri color) -
Thats a tough one because on his papers it doesn't have a Kennel Name. His Sire and Dam are Grays Jake and Grays Daisey. Their last name is Gray. She gave me his papers when I got him from her. He was a craigslist puppy. I got him a 6mo. She couldnt care for him any longer so I took him and my sister got his brother. So its a tough one to come up with.

Were is parents AKC registered? Do you have is pedigree?
-
Yes they are. I do not have his Pedigree. I will get one when I register him.
Me and my boyfriend came up with a fitting name.
"MYSTERIOUS MIDNIGHT MAGIC" Midnight because he is black. We're going to submit that and see if it's accepted.

Cute name, you can find is pedigree at http://www.pedigrees.zandebasenjis.com (search on the name Grays, his sire and dam are listed) and…. and looking at the pedigree of his sire and dam, I noticed in another one of your posts you state that neither his sire or dam were carriers? Doesn't look to me like they were ever DNA tested?
-
They told me they weren't carriers. If thats TRUE im not sure. Anubis WILL be getting tested as SOON as I can afford it. I want to make sure HE'S Not a carrier so that I don't have to worry as much about him getting Fanconi. So far so good as far as that goes. He gets a health check every 6 months from my vet and he's still extremely healthy. How much does a test cost?

Since the Sire and Dam are not in the OFA database, that means they have not been tested as all DNA tests for Fanconi are public knowledge… unless they tested him without using their AKC registrated names or AKC registration numbers. And really there would be no reason for them to do that...
Test is 65.00 and worth every penny for your peace of mind. If not tested then you should be strip testing monthly for spilling sugar, the first sign of Fanconi. This is a test you do... Please read about Fanconi and DNA testing and strip testing if not DNA'ed or if DNA test shows Affected. Go to www.basenjihealth.org

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Im going to get right on that. Will be good to to know he's not a carrier as well in case I ever wanted to breed him. Now the strip testing, is it with a diabetes test thing? Do I test his blood or urine?

Urine, you use Diabetic test strips for sugar in the urine. Here is a link for them on line. You don't really need the Ketone part, but sometime hard to find just the Urine strips. But do not just get the Ketone ones, they are not the correct ones.
