    :( I was unsure who to contact about my problem so here it goes. My sister and her family adopted a Basenji about 13 years ago and are sick with the loss her passing has brought to them all. They are looking to find a new one as she really loves the breed ( even though she was mixed). I have also recently lost my ShihTzu that was also 13 so I can relate to their sadness. I really want to help her. Where is a good place to adopt another Basenji (mixed or not) in the state of Washington? Thank You

    If they are interested in a rescue then they can start with BRAT, http://www.basenjirescue.com Even if they don't see a dog that is quite what they are looking for they should still apply since many dogs are matched before ever being listed on the website.

    If they are looking for a dog from a responsible breeder then they should start with the BCOA website, http://www.basenji.org They have information on screening breeders and a breeder directory.

    I'm sorry for both your losses. You are very sweet to be seeking a basenji contact for your sister (and maybe one for you too?). If you put in a BRAT application, someone will be in touch, there may be dogs in your area not listed yet on the web site.

    I know that the Basenji Rescue web site in So Cal is not up to date and they have Basenjis that are not shown and some that are shown available may be adopted. So it's best to contact them and get an application going.

    Also if you contact the breeders in the PNW listed on the BCOA site that LVOSS posted some may have puppies/juveniles/adults available. You can also find contact info for basenji fanciers on the Willamette Valley Basenji Club site http://www.basenji-club.com and Evergreen Basenji Club site http://www.evergreenbasenjiclub.org/
    Send the folks an email or give them a call to check availability! I wish you luck on your journey to find another basenji companion

    Hi there. I would do some DNA testing on him. However, if you go to the Colorado Basenji Rescue website, there is a mix at the bottom of the page. There appears to be some similarities. You could also email Peggy of CBR with your photos and ask her. She has been working with Basenji and Basenji mixes for a long, long time.

    I have to go read your link, but having been called to the shelter to see a chow that was an overweigh pomeranian, a rottweiler that was a lovely hound dog (Rottie rescue in FL told me keep quiet, they knew it wasn't a rottie but had a good home so just get it. I expected a LITTLE Rottweiler looking... bahahaha, no.)... vets who thought our basenjis were so many other things, not much surprises me.

    @nouno: His parents are also in Cyprus. His mother is 4 years old. Did not have any problems. His father is 2 years old and also did not have any problems. Not yet. Is too expensive as I have to send all the test to the USA. But I will get through with it as long as I am able to. Age that Fanconi can show up is from usually 3 years all the way till over 10 years

    @cmd: Our 12yr old Ramsey is from one of Linda's Basenji's and a very sweet guy. Have you tried Hacker's Basenji's? Ann is an active and very responsible breeder and she's near Danville. I can't say enough good things about her. We've had 2 of her dogs and both have had great temperaments. She's friends with a lot of other breeders in the area as well. If she doesn't have any available you could also try Select Basenji's near Dayton. I think she was co-breeding last year. We have a Select and she's a great little dog – a ball of energy though! I too was looking for a Basenji last year at this time. We lost our 14 yr old also year to date and felt a puppy would help everyone move on. Sort of became a mission. Puppies can be hard to come by this late, but we did find several. Nope, Tracy's breeding didn't take this year…but I think she is planning one for spring :)
