  • Good Morning all,

We are considering getting another puppy, for our 7 month old B Girl. Does anyone have experience with either Debbie Hauri in New Hampshire or Eldorado Basenji's in Attleboro, MA. Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is she a BCOA member? Check out the BCOA site and that will be a good start

  • Thanx
    i will check

My 3 year old Basenji Sonny is from Debbie. When my brother was choosing between both breeders it was a hands down choice to go with Debbie after visiting both breeders. We couldn't be happier with Sonny. He's a wonderful funny boy with tons of personality! :)

  • My 3 basenjis are from Eldorado - Eldorado are definitely BCOA members (Pam is currently BCOA president). Debbie at Mata Hauri is a BCOA member as well.

I couldn't be happier with my 3 b kids (2 were bred at Eldorado - so actual Eldorado basenjis - and 1 is their import from Finland) - great temperaments and the sisters do a ton of health testing. They are also super helpful no matter how big or small the question - they've pretty much seen it all and are super knowledgeable.

Debbie is super knowledgeable and a wonderful person and has some beautiful dogs as well.

I don't think you could go wrong with either.

I think you would be happy with either… Debbie breds some very nice Basenjis as does Eldorado Basenjis.

  • Pam Geoffroy [Eldorado] is President of the BCOA and Debbi Hauri [Mata Hauri] is a longtime Basenji breeder.

I am sure you would love a pup from either of them :-)

We were saddened and disappointed in our visit there. It was our first exposure to the Breed unfortunately. We are working with Robyn and a reputable breeder in South Georgia currently. We are hopeful for a match with a young adult Or teen. Thanks for your input.

@Lauma: Do you have any information on Itzyu Basenjis in VA? My mother and brother are adopting a "Golden Opportunity" dog from them next month. Can't go wrong with a Basenji from Itzyu Basenjis…. my opinion is go for it..... and they will get a great "golden opportunity" dog from them!

Average litter size is 4 to 6… for Basenjis... My litters were 6,4,4, and 4 As lvoss pointed out there are other threads of the heartbreak that breeding can bring... along with the cost.... Again if really interested in breeding, get involved with the breed first.... find a mentor, go to shows just to watch, go to lure trials,... join a regional club if there is one in your area. For a real learning experience, go to the Nationals...

Yes, Arlene, you do need at some point to take a stand and trust what you see and what you like… Breeding comes down to that in the end.... And with a bitch that is only 1 1/2 yrs looking down from the top is not a very good judge... IMO... reason?... They are not mature yet... and they shouldn't be.... their ribs have not even "sprung" at this age.. again IMO.... I would be hard pushed to say a dog is "wider" in the front then the rear at this age by just looking down on them.... again IMO.... Here is a link to 3 pictures of Kobey, 6wks, 3 months and 5 1/2 months... everything I saw on this pup at 6 wks that I liked (and that is a bit early then the 8 wks usually used for evaluating pups) I still see... but there are differences while growing... Now granted this pup is one of the few that has yet to really fall apart with a growing spurt... And also the faults that I saw at 6wks are still there too..... www.tanzabasenjis.net/kobeygrowing.html
