I am not in your area, but ... you should know that dog training is about teaching you how to interact with your dog, as opposed to teaching your dog how to do things. Most area Kennel Clubs offer training where you are your dogs partner in the class. The things you will learn will last your lifetime. I applaud the non-punitive approach. A lot of people fly off the handle when their dog chews on the wrong thing, or doesn't quite have potty training down. One of the best things you can do is give them love when they do it right and don't react when they don't. Recognize that he's just a pup. You can trade an acceptable chew toy for your shoes, and you can avoid the problem by closing the closet door so your pup can't get to your shoes. Accidents will happen and learning to potty doesn't happen overnight. Just provide a lot of verbal love when the pup gets it right and don't react when he doesn't. Love and praise are the best tools in your training bag. Congrats on your pup. Can't wait to hear about all of your adventures!

I am lucky with my guy. Although he has attempted digging a few times and been told "no", he doesn't take advantage of my absence to pursue the habit. One exception was when I assume he was cold, and he dug his way under the comforter on the bed, managing to do some damage to the foamy we have on the bed to make it softer. (never assume the bed that felt soft enough in the showroom will be so when you get it home! :) ) He has free run of the house and seldom abuses the privilege. Obviously if the damage occurs when you are gone the only solution is to restrict his access to the things he is likely to harm. Or suffer the consequences. ;)

I usually run mine nekkid anyways, but never seen or heard of anyone having collar troubles around here. People use muzzles as well, which could cause the same potential problem I guess. I do use those now always. Most of our oval races are continuous loop. But of course the straights are drag.

@Janneke: Sunday, March 1st :D 7 b's entering. I'm very curious who will be there.. Tillo's ears are a bit hairless at the moment.. It doens't look too nice.. but we can't help it.. ooh, that mostly doesn't matter, Buana's ears are also every year about this time very hairless  He's never judged badly about that. Sometimes, I shown him in the time he is almost bald  his but with NO hair and he became best male out of a lot males (he was in youth class) so the judges don't really look at it. That's my experience, the judges just know about B's and their fur. Our show is this sunday in Amersfoort and then 14 march in Leiden. Shall we make a deal? You get a point in Groningen, Kas get a point in Leiden! We've the best B's… :D A lot of succes and don't be nervous.. he's so sweet and handsome..

@tsjoe007: What you can try in these conditions is to rev up the sensitivity of the camera (you remember, the ASA thing ;) ) for instance from 200 or 400 ASA to 1600 or even 3200. But beware ! The "noise" will rise too so if you want to print the photos on a format greater than A4 the noise will be very prominent so you have to compare the pro's and con's. Again, practice, practise, practise. Better take 50 pictures than to wait for the right moment to shoot. That's the benefit of shooting digital !;) I don't like to high ISO's, because of the noice.. especially not if you can put another lens on your cam. Professional photographers not only have more experience.. they also have more money to spend on lenses…. that's another BIG advantage.. Better filters.. better feeling for composition.. better photoshop programmes.. etc ;)
