• Sorry if this is in the wrong place, can only see this Q&A forum and the Show Results forum so not sure where general show "chat" should go :p

But anyway, very exciting times! Entered little Maya into her very first show yesterday. Its a big, scary Championship show the day after she turns 6 months - nothing like throwing her straight in at the deep end  She will love it though πŸ˜ƒ

Its only about 6 weeks away now  Time really does fly by!!

Pointless posts, but very exciting! Going to a local championship show on saturday to watch the Basenji judging and make sure im doing it all correctly with Maya :o lol

    Jess

  • Good luck! I am sure you will both do great!!

  • Good luck, I'm sure you will both be fine:D

  • Thanks guys!

Im sure Maya will be fine, its me that will be the problem. Its so strange showing her cos its completely different to how you show a pug or lab.. will probably embarrass myself horribly lol

  • I know what you mean because growing up I handled our Buhunds until I was a bit older then my mum allowed me to handle the Basenjis and it was so different.

  • You know, you're supposed to say:

"no, dont worry, basenji's are EASY to handle"

    :p lol!!

  • lol

Now that would leading you into a false sense of security hee hee….

  • :p

I am confident that if i get flustered and completely c*ck it all up, Maya will just show herself without the handicap of a handler πŸ˜ƒ lol

  • @Maya:

    :p

I'm sure she will if she is anything like her mother;)

  • Her mum is like a little robot isn't she? I just love watching her in the ring. You wouldnt think its the same dog when you see her at home, a complete fussy baby, just wants cuddles πŸ˜ƒ

According to the breeder, Maya has taken after her mother in the training side of things.. Unlike her sister who i think is rather more strong willed! lol Maya picked it all up really quickly and just tries SO hard to do everything right! Will all change in the ring of course, too many distractions. But so far she's been perfect πŸ™‚

  • Millie reminds me very much in her style of Belle's sire in the ring, like poetry in motion.
When is Kim bringing out Maya's brother?

Well, im only in touch with Trish and Dee (and Sue in America!) but as far as im aware they will all be coming out to the shows this summer, all being well. Dont hold me too that though :o

Who is Belle's sire? Im so not up on who's who in the basenji world :o

I'm looking forward to seeing them all when they come out, though don't know where as not going to many on the mainland until next year when i will be back living in Scotland.

He lives in Gemany so you won't see him I'm afraid, Am/Int Ch C-Quests Echo of Eldorado

  • ooooohhh thats great!!!!

I'm sure you both do very nice!
I love Maya sooooo much, she's sooooo pretty πŸ˜ƒ

  • I shall have to google him! πŸ˜ƒ

Obviously, i have nothing to compare to and no knowledge of what basenji babies look like, but i thought the whole litter looked really nice. There wasn't much to choose between them. Maya was my first choice purely based on her colour, but i'd have happily had the red girl also. The tri boy was just STUNNING. I was in love with him! And the red boy.. Just a good! Really nothing to pick between them.

I have been informed that a lot of people are excited to see how they look… which is making me very nervous now! I dont know what people will think of me, complete newbie to the absenji world with a Millie pup :o lol Fingers crossed i manage to do her justice!!

I think people are curious because of Millie doing so well and these puppies have a lot to live up to. Don't let the pressure get to you though forget the fact that you have a Millie puppy.
We have a few newbies in the breed just recently so you won't be alone. I think it is great that we have some new people in the breed we needed it, though not wveryone will agree:rolleyes:
A couple of people on my puppy waiting list are keen to show if their puppies turn out good enough so that will be some new people for the future.

Yes, i have already had some experience of those who are not in agreement that new people are needed 😞 They were non too friendly when they found out i had a millie pup!

The way i look at it, Maya is my baby! And at least being with a "newbie" people will not be expecting quite so much from her… I hope! :o Having the only tri girl in the litter wont help though... Wonder how soon before she gets compared to her mum

I was really pleased that Maya's breeders were happy to consider me for one of their pups!! πŸ˜ƒ

Ah well just some very bitter people:rolleyes:
I wish you every success with her and look forward to seeing her:D

  • It is ALWAYS good to have new people interested in the breed, especially those that are willing to invest the time and effort into preserving Basenji heritage and sharing their knowledge with others!!

If people could keep it in mind that new people are the future of the breed, not a threat, things would be so much easier for everyone!!!
