Greetings from eastern North Carolina… My name is Brandon and I've been involved with BRAT for about 5 or 6 years now. I have had 2 basenjis, Jazzineah and Mr. Tazz, as well as a foster, Buddy... I'm currently a full time student, having returned to college to finish my degree after a 15 year hiatus... I'm working on making my new place more basenji friendly so that I can get back into fostering and hopefully have a clan to call my own again...

I've hunted deer with my basenji in emergency situations during archery season. She has helped me find several wounded deer in the woods after dark. Basenjis are easily distracted by other trails and other deer scents so you need to make them associate the smell of deer blood with getting a raw venison treat. My basenji found a deer for me the first time I tried it with her. Most dogs need extensive training for this but she picked it up in 10 minutes. She has helped me a great deal. If there is no blood on the ground however it'd be tough depending on the wind direction, and they usually get distracted by diverging deer trails if there is no blood to follow.

Scroll half way down the page. She's the one on the far left more concerned with sleeping than the foto op. The black on her muzzle is gone now but if you look at the 2 pups on the right with their tails uncurled, there is a black spot/stripe inside their curl. Kate has that. Other than that, she's all r/w and takes after her dad in that "he's not very brave" and the diplomatic comment concerning his big feet! She's a big foot for sure!!

I just looked at her grandmum's picture again, it's been a while, and that's our Katie from another time. Looks just like her

His name is Tommy Bryant, located in Port Orange FL. We got his name from breeders.net. I checked out some other breeders, but most of them had this huge waiting list, and were no where close to Orlando. But I'm really happy with our choice. SHe is turning out to be a very good pup.
