Basenji folks in alabama

Basenji Talk
  • hi, i noticed that we had a few members from alabama. i was wondering if any you owned or knew who owned a dog by the name of mugsy the mug? my sister had a pup out of him and when she asked about the parents they had been sold to someone in alabama, they never found the contact info for her. its a long shot but i thought i would ask here for her.

  • Hi Ambered, I don't know about that particular dog. I bought Abbey two years ago from Mike McAnnalley in Morris, Alabama. He bought the father, Playboy, from someone in Missouri, but the mother, Guinivere, was rescued from someone locally who was about to make a puppy factory out of her. I don't know of any other basenji breeders here.

  • lenora, i just read your profile, funny. my mom is in alabama, a nurse, and enjoys celtic music, she even took a trip to ireland recently.
this dog was purchased in south florida, there was a female too. cigar bugsy, i beleive is the name. they would be about 6 or 7 nowadays. i was just curious what happened to them. i did check the zande pedigree search, there are no others pups registered. somewhat of a relief, so no one does this

but the mother, Guinivere, was rescued from someone locally who was about to make a puppy factory out of her.

i knew one older couple in dothan that had a few basenjis, some were show, mostly rescues. my mom is in abbeville, she just has pets now.

@planetsaver said in Basenji for me or not ?: Will be a problem to leave him alone, let's say 10 days / month an average of 9 hours a day. Also I do not want to have to much trouble with the neighbours, but I understand he can make some noise sometimes, maybe he can be trained to stay alone and not to bark that much. Why would you even think about training a hunting hound to stay home alone ? I would never let my Basenjis alone for more than 4 hours, and even that is very rare. 3 hours is absolute maximum. Like @tanza, I have sold puppies into apartment environments as long as all other boxes ticked positive. Someone there all the time, proper attention to training, not just leaving the dog alone, especially not as a puppy. btw, he won't bark at all. As you would know if you had really researched the breed. He will cry and scream but not bark ! No. At least you are asking questions but I really think you should find another breed.

Looks can be so deceiving- here is an article of a woman who adopted a rescue dog in N.J. Dog looks like a basenji - even her vet thought it might be basenji. She did an Embark DNA test - no basenji. Turned out the dog was a mixture of Mountain Cur, Rat Terrier, Beagle, and Boston Terrier. link text

@melduff I for one think this is FANTASTIC news! You guys are so lucky! You have a one of kind super dog with the papers to prove it. Walks around the neighborhood and trips to the dog park are going to be very much fun... Friendly neighbor: Oh, she's so cute! What kind of dog is she? You: Thanks you so much. Why, she's a Staffy Chow Lab Rott Russell Husky. (Ya haff ta memorize that) :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:  Thanks a bunch for letting us know. Very much enjoyed your thread.

I'm not sure why your pictures are not showing up. I'm going to experiment. [image: 1467823614030-bathtimex.jpg] O.K. that seems to work. I dragged and dropped it and I see it. Now to check whether others can also see it! This is a picture of my two girls, taken a long time ago......probably in the '80s. I am wondering if the picture you are trying to upload is too big. Trying that now. I am not seeing the picture I just uploaded, so that may be the problem. ![0_1467823932526_Bathtime.jpg](Uploading 100%) Yes, I think that is the key. Downsize your picture and I bet it will work properly. As you see, I get the same uploading message that you did, but no picture, when I try to upload a large file.

lol usually when you breed a bigger dog to a smaller dog the Male is the tiny one. Its just dangerous to do it the other way around. As far as DNA breed testing I would go for it if I could. But i am just interested in those kinds of tests. We offer them at our clinic but i haven't ever seen results for them.
