Legally, you don't have to give anything but rabies. And legally it has to say 3 years to be "legal" for 3 yrs. As for the rest, I have every 3 yrs until the dog is old. I give no vaccines after about 7 years old unless there is some new outbreak. Generally, a dog that is healthy is fully immunized by adulthood. If they have autoimmune issues, vaccinations won't help and may make worse. So recommended, don't recommend, when it isn't the law, you get to do what is best for your dogs.

My OJ had excessive PPM to the point you could see with the naked eye, in his litter, he had two that had total sheeting over one eye and the other had excessive PPM as he did. So he would have never CERF'ed. And PPM runs in his pedigree. This was one of the reasons he was never bred. However, all that said if this was the only reason that I decided not to use him, things might have been different. As breeders not everything is going to be perfect. In the end we all need to decide what we can and can not live with in doing a breeding.

And I also agree, the more information you have to begin with, the better informed decision you can make for breeding. Not everyone is going to think the same on what is or is not important…

Ok, I got it. So basically the only way (as far as we know with the test available today) to get affecteds is if the "breeder" either don't test prior to breeding or breed affecteds and carriers together, and not using a clear in the mix.

Right, Affecteds and Carriers and IND (between a Clear and a Carrier, so should be considered a Carrier) should only be bred to Clears, period

With the very, very few inconsistant results excluded, looking at the test results, what we are seeing is what we would expect to see, especially in looking at tested sires and dams and then their offspring.

Clear pups ONLY means that neither parent is affected, and that does not change with multiple clear pups. The only thing that shows any determination of the parents is a test of the parent themselves (or if their grandparents are clear).

correct. The more clear pups (with no affecteds or carriers) you had from the breeding of the same two animals, the more LIKELY it is that the parents are clear…but it certainly would not be a for sure.

Really you should test at least monthly for Fanconi starting at age 3… but that is not to say that they can't start spilling sugar earlier.. And really in the beginning it is possible that if you are only doing it once a month and only one day, you might miss it all together.. I know a couple of Basenjis that only showed spilling sugar 1 out of 4 days in the beginning, so really best to do a few days in a row every month. Since the strips do not last long, no use is wasting them.
