    i am a military wife too! my husband left 8 days ago for an eight month deployment (navy), this is the longest one we have had to endure. (one of the reasons i got fender in the first place-i still have someone to snuggle!)

    I think you picked the right dog to snuggle….....B's have to the best at that.:)

    I hope your husband has a safe return......hang on to that B.;)

    Glad you all could meet up. I guess corresponding over the months kind of makes us feel like we know one another. It's so cool to meet the face behind the name.

    I feel SOOOOOO left out…. are there any other forum members in Tennessee??? You guys are SOOO lucky. I think I shall resort to posting notices at vet offices in order to build up a playgroup of basenjis. We have only met ONE other here in Knoxville, but I know there are others out there and hope to meet them ALL soon.

    @ukjason That's a good suggestion. I usually ask him to go fetch (or at least touch) the leash - still waiting for the leash to be brought back!!!! Then sit while I put it on. We can extend the session. Thank you.

    @weedtrek Possibly Basenji mix, nose looks a bit wider and the eyes are less oval. Could well be a Basenji mix though.

    As an organization BRAT doesn't foster mixes, but sometimes individual members will, at their own expense. BRAT does maintain a Basenji mix adoption site, but the dogs on there are often ones belonging to other rescue organizations. Individual owners looking to place their B-mixes, I think, have to coordinate their own dogs. When I was BRAT's Basenji mix coordinator I often would coordinate the dogs, but I'm not sure if it's like that now. I know that there are certain individuals in BRAT that don't think BRAT should deal with B-mixes at all. -Joanne

    Oh Barklessdog, you are a brave person. I must now stand with you in insane-solidarity and admit I bought it too. It is awful but when you get the line "we couldn't say goodbye so we took him home" part, you know you got to help support the woman. lol

    OMG, TRUST me…its not only ur baby, Jack has some seporation anxiety, i mean, we rescued him so that may be why, but i Always feel so sad when we leave him, he runs to the window and crys when we leave, but i KNOW it wonly lasts until he cant see us anymore (driving away) my neighbor watched for me. but SOMETIMES he does get into things when we leave for too long. like the other day, when he ate my betta fish food...grr...
