Available puppies

  • A friend of mine (in France) is looking for a r/w basenji boy for a show prospect (he will be shown in France as well as northern europe). needs all the usual health tests done on the parents and being probably clear by parentage or being probably clear himself.
Anybody knows of available puppies, in Europe or the States.

Yes there was a post of one of the yahoo Basenji list too…. Best that they contact directly responsible breeders in the US... to see that might be available with current litters now being born

  • Yep! Was also me on the yahoo list.

The problem is that she wanted one 3 month old now (I know not too realistic)
The breeder she imported her female from (well known US responsible breeder) hasn't got and is not planning to breed red and white this year.
So she asked me if I knew any available puppy, I don't, then I thought perhaps asking on the lists (especially the bbr one) or the forum could be of any help (apperently not).

Yup, not real realistic this time of year… I don't know of anyone that had that early a litter to have a 3 month old now...

@senjisilly said in Basenji Puppy in US: Get Educated BEFORE you BUY I second this motion! Seriously... to quote the animal shelter I got my Aussie/Border Collie from during the holidays back in the day... "A dog is not for Christmas. It's for LIFE!" Let people who've been in this breed for some time, have contacts, know the in's and out's guide you. Picture in your mind a 15-year commitment. Help this breed by supporting responsible breeders who are passionate about the breed. How do you spot a Responsible Breeder? Insist on health testing PRIOR to breeding. Know your breeder's goals for the breed. Meet them! See if they're in @Zande's Pedigree Database. Read the Basenji Club of America Illustrated Standard on @tanza's site. Most of you won't ever show your dog and that's OK! Your breeder should know the Standard inside and out. They should be able to talk to it. Read it and ask them how their line supports the standard. Ask them what their breeding goals are, what they've been working on, where they are going, etc. That's fair. A good Basenji breeder is going ask you a TON of questions, AND THEY SHOULD! We want good solid safe homes for puppies, retired show dogs or dogs that don't want to show. Not every puppy will be a show dog. In fact, most won't be. Litters on average are between 4 and 6. Responsible breeders need pet homes for puppies that aren't going to part of their breeding programs. You can support responsible breeding by providing pet homes. Just make sure your breeder will make time for ALL your questions both before and AFTER the purchase. Mine will! :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

@tanza yes, but Lovebird of the Congo, sadly, only had one litter and then succumbed to a car racing on country lanes so we never knew if she would come in in Autumn next time around. I always figure to get a rest through end of March to May/June from entering litters born during our winter into the d/b before the Australians start whelping and registering their 'winter' litters, born in our summer - sorry electrician working and he turned the power off at the mains . . . where was I ? OK, back on again. Some revert, some don't. Again, its the rich tapestry of Life With Basenjis !

@debradownsouth He was Arrested and then he died. I will refrain from posting Horse related posts. You just did not believe me when I said Horses are taken to Great Adventure. Now regarding the Basenjis relation to Wolves: Mu dog loved the Wolves and when I would walk the Wolf and the Dog in the Park the Dogs there which included Rotties, Saint Bernards, Bull Mastiffs all pulled their owner out of the Park because Dogs instinctively fear Wolves. Thannks!

Yes, if you want a rescue basenji you really need to be on top of it every day. They go fast, and unfortunately not always to educated homes. The effort is well worth it, though, both in getting a wonderful pup (who may need to work through some issues so you can both be reminded he's wonderful) and in the satisfaction of giving a basenji who's been misunderstood a wonerful forever home. Hang in there. Your pup will find you.
