Purring???

Basenji Talk

  • I just have a quick, funny question, do any of your dogs purr? Whenever my Tosca is in a cuddly mood and we go over to pet her she makes this cute purring noise, not exactly like a cat purring of course, but its funny nontheless. A lot of sites I have seen on basenjis compare them to cats, and I never agreed, except for this :) Just wanted to see if I was the only one out here!

  • Magnum "purrs" when he's being loved on (at least that's what I call it…it's really more of a soft, low moaning...kinda like the sound a human might make when getting a good massage).

  • Nala does too!

Well isn't she a sassy little thing? Thanks so much for the information. I had not heard of this one at all. I will Google it to get more info and find where to purchase! Deb

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

Jetta does this. I have a BC who does it too. I call it their "Comfy noise." Mostly cause it makes me feel comfy too. :D
