Pumpkin Pies

Basenji Talk
  • Last year around Thanksgiving, my wife made two pumpkin pies. We ate one up and left the other one on the counter. While cleaning up after dinner, my wife asked me if I ate the 2nd pie. I said no way, I was full. "Then, where is it?" I replied, "Maybe the pups got into it." We searched all over the house for the pie tin…finally I found it under the dining table, clean as a whistle. At that time, we had two B's and a foster. We wondered who it could be??? Then we saw our 3 yr old male tri, Buddy, waddling into the kitchen with an innocent expression...the waddle implicated the thief of the entire pumpkin pie.

  • I bet if they could've eaten the pie pan, they would have to hide the evidence. Guilt has a way of revealing itself. Cute story.

  • My Sahara loves Pumpkin Cake, so I have no doubt that she would love the pie. At least Pumpkin is good for them, and that it was not chocolate. I had a piece of Pumpkin Cake from a church fellowship dinner and Sahara spied me eating it so of course she jumped up in my lap. Being the easy one in the house, I had to give her a taste. She loved it and ate more, she likes alot of things that I eat. But I will not give her anything that I think will bother her stomach and definitely not chocolate.

I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

We use ones from Rukka. Not sure if they’re available everywhere but they are they best ones we have tried (others always fell off, especially in deep snow). I think having two Velcro closures on each sock has been key. I also prefer the soft shell ones as our B seems to accept them more and they don’t twist as much as the ones with a hard sole. Here are the ones I am referring to: https://rukkapets.com/paw-wear/thermal-shoes-black

My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

Kiora loves fresh pumpkin! She usually only gets it twice a year on Halloween and Thanksgiving. It's a special treat for her. Miss Ananda thinks she is insane and would like to let it be known that she prefers to eat turkey on Thanksgiving. ;) I think it usually goes over o.k with their tummies since it is high in fiber. Kiora's stomach is made of steel, though. Once she ate an entire bar of 70% cacao chocolate and was not even a little sick, though I was sick with worry for about a day and a half.
