    Iam new here and to B's since i just learned that my puppy is a B mix, mostly B though. He is 5 months old we guess. He knows to go to the dog to outside to pee, but sometimes if he is playing with our other dog or even for no reason he pees alittle. Its like little pee trails through the house. It also seems like he pees frequently. But when he's in his cage he never has an accident. It seems he just wants me to take him outside. Any suggetions.

    Has he had a vet check? He may have a UTI. It may also be that as a 5 month old puppy he just doesn't have a mature bladder. Many puppy accidents happen when they are excited like during play or greeting. They get so excited they just can't hold it.

    Erik, My Keoki is 6.5 mos old and we had a similar problem w/him. I guess you could say we still have that problem, since he just did it again last week {ARGH!!}.

    He has always stood still and peed in one spot outside. But even as a young puppy, if he peed in the house he left a pee trail. No UTI, no other health problems. I have yet to figure it out.

    You're lucky he "pees a little". LOL Keoki left trails from one room to the next. We have hard wood floors through much of the area, and it was sometimes hard to see the pee. There'd be one of two of us, standing or crawling around, cocking our heads at different angles trying to see the pee {it gets "lost" in reflections from lights and windows}. Really, quite ridiculous!

    Our female never did this.

    Thanks, glad to hear I am not the only one. He has been to the vet and gotton all the shots and a general check up, and they said he's healthy. Just gotta keep with the training. thanks

    My mom has a dog that did that when he was a puppy. Now that he has gotten older (2 years) he doesn't do it anymore. If he is otherwise healthy he probably just needs time. When he gets a little older and develops a little more control I bet he stops.

    It can take at least 6 months or more till they are truely house trained.

    I don't get other dogs in the yard but I do get foxes, she will sniff but isn't bothered.

    A UTI IMO would be the best case scenario, some antibiotics and bam situation resolved. Changing behaviour is a hard thing to do, it takes time and effort. Having your animal checked for medical issues first is what ANY good behaviourist would suggest when there is a signifigant change in the animal. It makes sense. BTW drinking a lot of water would also make me recommend going to the vet first.

    @Lesco: We got her from Debbie Hauri in New Hampshire Welcome and congrats on your new pup…how exciting! Is this one of the pups from the Tango & Dora breeding? One thing that I did when I brought my pup home last winter was set up a crate, a litter box (with wood shaving pellets - equine pine) and put an xpen around it (also had a top on the xpen). That way when Liyah was crated for an extended time when I wasn't home, if she had to potty she could use the litter box. It was a great setup and consequently she never went to the bathroom in her crate...sometimes she partially missed the litterbox, but she was just a baby so I was happy she did as well as she did. I left the crate door open with treats, toys and soft bedding so she would choose on her own to go in the crate to sleep. I clipped the xpen closed. If you have space, I highly recommend this sort of setup so that your pup can keep her crate clean. The only other thing I would add is don't hesitate to contact Debbi with questions. She is a wonderful person, super helpful and a good breeder. Not to mention she is a good trainer so I'm sure she'd have plenty of tips. Please post pics when you get a chance...we love pics!

    @dcmclcm4: Sorry, I did not know the dog came from Carol Ann and is a full af. My second response is automatically the Fanconi health issue and testing. I hope she gets better soon and no longer has a temperature. For Bs with an unknown background, I recommend urine strip testing starting at two since there have been affecteds showing symptoms at three. I do this for all of my rescues but I also do the DNA test. That would have been mine also….. about testing for Fanconi..but I remembered that she came from Carol Ann............

    thanks to all your suggestions. this is the second day/night now and she has peed outside. She has started to go towards the door when she needs to go to do a pee, so i've let her out..stayed with her until she does (which has been very quick, it used to take 5 or so minutes but now only 5 seconds..which is great!! She gets alot of praise when she does and she is quickly allowed back inside. Fingers crossed it stays that way!! Yes all bedroom & toilet doors shut..i learnt not to let her out of our sight as she is very sneaky??? One more question which i find odd..why is there a need for her to clean up after herself after peeing on the floor or her bed??

    When I first got Tayda, I left her in the bedroom when i went to take a shower. When I got out of the shower, I noticed she peed on the bed! I totally thought it was out of anger that I left her in the bedroom. Strangely, when I brought Lenny home a year later as a puppy, he did the same thing.
