Greetings from Athena and her family

  • Hello everyone! I just found the Basenji forums yesterday, and I am so happy I did!

We have one basenji, Athena, and she is a joy. Also a mystery and a pain in rear, but that's how they are!

^–--That's Athena in my avatar. Wearing her pink sweater (my daughter chose it) and lounging in the garden window.

We also have a Fox Terrier, and 2 elderly cats.

I am looking forward to reading all the information, and learning more about our crazy, wonderful dogs.

  • Welcome. Post some more pics. We love pictures. Your Athena looks adorable. I love the sweater.

  • Hello and welcome to the forum. Can't wait to see more pics.

  • Welcome! This is a fun, informative site…She looks adorable in her pink sweater! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your "family". My grandparents had a male Toy Fox Terrier while I was growing up...his name was Tiger, which was very appropriate - LOL! But he loved me!!

  • Hi Melissa,

    Welcome! Who is Athena's breeder?

  • WElcome Melissa & Athena!!!

  • Thanks for the warm welcome all!

Athena was bred by Katie Campbell of Taji. Her fancy name is Taji's Profitable Annuity. Her parents are Taji's Trinidad Tradewind (sire) and Taji's Go For Baroque (dam).

She is a bit on the small side and has some gait issues (she lifts her front feet like a Lippizaner - we thinks it's cute), so she is a not a show dog. She is content to run the household from her little patch of sunshine!

I will definitely post more pictures, as soon as I find the transfer cord for the camera….:)

Yay! I thought that was the Athena that I know!! We have her sister, Bella (Ch Taji's Closing Bell at Quercus JC) she is in my avatar, and also in some pics in my member album…oh, and at my website if you want to see more of her :) I think we met at the Evergreen Basenji Club specialty the year the girls were puppies?

  • We did meet at the Basenji Specialty! Bella was so cute sitting on your lap. I know I have a picture of all 4 pups lined up somewhere from that event.

I wondered if that was the Bella I knew! Good to 'meet' you again!

  • Welcome to both of you!

At 18 months and 7lbs I very much doubt that he's got Basenji in him but who knows. It doesn't matter,- he's a delightfulchap and good to have you both on here. Looking forward to more pictures.

Welcome to you and Snicker. I'm pleased that you said 'accident' - it's definitely not Snicker's fault. If you follow the advice gicven by previous posters you'll very soon have the perfect housetrained Basenji. They are generally very clean little creatures and in my opinion are the easiest dog to housetrain.

Wow - your 5th! See I had a sense there you had some major B experience ;) We picked up Jack early that day, think we might have been the first to arrive, and only met one other man picking up a little girl, Stella, he lived in NY city I think. I think there was another couple arriving just after we left for the other little boy in the litter, that might be who you saw. I tell you when I walked in, I was just completely in awe of all those precious pups! So tiny, I just did not picture so tiny! We are on Doris's list for a little girl if we are lucky out of a breeding this fall. Jack needs a playmate!!! Well so nice to connect with you and hope to continue to do so. Good luck with your shows!

Hi cmd - My name is Jill and I am the recipient of a rescued male puppy, Duke, who I have since learned (after 4 months) is a Basenji, now 8 mos. old. I love this forum, because I have learned alot about this breed. I now realize that Basenjis are a challenge, but I believe the more I know, the easier he will be for me and my family. There is no turning back now because we are in love with Duke . Select "Bonnie Bell" a 10 month old female (from Emerant's the Instigator and Select in my Pocket) and "Ramsey" Geheep's Klassic Jim a 11 year old male (Klassic Eye of the Tiger and Baruh's Jessica Hahnd) Wish I knew where Duke's blood lines run. You must be proud. I am new at this and I love to read the stories and learn that I am not crazy! I am glad you're a veteran as are many forum friends here. I love the stories about the Basenji's extraordinary body of energy and their purposes. Can you guess why my handle is Crazy Duke? I can tell you about some unbelievable stories about Duke since bringing him home already. (That's why I'm glad to find this forum - Duke's not crazy, he's a Basenji.) She was an awesome dog and was very very loyal. I am so sorry for your loss. But the only comfort we have is knowing she had a great life being in your life. I've lost many doggies over the rainbow to squirrel heaven. I hope you'll share some more stories and help us new-B's here on the Basenji Forum.
