I'm looking at getting a puppy. I wonder if anyone has any pictures that they can post of Basenjis with excessive white on their heads? I've been scouring the internet and can't find any pics. I'm trying to figure out how the puppy will look when it gets older. Beautiful white collar but I wonder if the wrinkle will be lost in the white.

I forgot to mention that they can also be extreme houdinis. My female has learned how to manipulate the latch on her crate so I have to use a lock and she taught herself how to open the screen door. My friend had a male that could climb an 8 foot fence and escape. Be sure to check about such things when you talk with breeders or BRAT.

Ours love the heat but will definitely mix it up between sun and shade or come inside where it is cool (we have a dog door)

In the winter, they can often be found by a heat vent if the fireplace is not on.

There is a vent blowing right out below the sink here.

And there is one here that is under the sideboard, but blows out really nicely across a wide area. Often a couple will be here.

Then there is this silly dog that loves heat so much she will sit by the charcoal grill even in the summer. I felt ho hot her head was so I had to get the thermometer out.

I don't think it's a Basenji or even a mix.. only because according to AKC the first litter of Basenji puppies raised to maturity was in 1941, so it was a very new breed to our country at that time! It's a very cute dog regardless!! I can see where it can be mistaken for a Basenji mix with those adorable ears! I would love to see these pictures enhanced/in color. Very interesting find! 🙂

I am with JazzysMom… I never barracade my tree... and we never did it when I was growing up either. The only thing my dogs do is eat the candy canes... so what... no different than the licorice I share with them!

This morning, Cha Cha was chasing the IG back behind the tree and that was his "hiding place" from her.

I do remember growing up that the only time anything was taken off the tree was when I would hang dog bones on it 😃 Now, who can blame them for scaling the tree then?? :eek:

We have our presents on the dining table right now... only because I was setting up a "background" for puppy pictures and then if I move them to below the tree... where is Preston/IG going to run and hide after he steals the basenjis toys??

If your baby yodels for you, your husband and your son, don't feel bad, they know who does all the work. At least Zoe yodels. My little girl has never yodeled, and on five occasions now in the past month, has barked - barked like a dog, each time when something made her nervous/scared. So depressing.

I had a thread on here a couple of months back about how zoe at about 4 months had never yodeled. Someone told me to try and encourage her by egging her on. I did this until I was hoarse but I finally got her to yodel. Now she seems to be doing it more and more.

We dont have a fence yet so when we are outside I keep zoe tied. When my husband gets home he stays just out of her reach until she gets so frustrated she yodels then we praise her and get all excited with her. Same with kitchen boundary. She isnt allowed so we stand in the kitchen untils she yodels (This is my problem they say I give up to quick lol) If we baroo she will usually yodels faster.

My son came home today and again she ran to the kitchen door and yodeled for him right away didnt need to baroo at her once.

BTW zoe also will let out what almost sounds like a bark when she is startled.
Sounds alot like when you get the air knocked out of you. Or her baroo got cut short. She did it three times when kids came behind her on boards and startled her one after the other 1 burf sound for each.
