  • Basenji are the best, mite take a little more work at times, but they are the best dogs.

  • Thanks for posting about your training routine and hunting explorations. Please do post some pictures or even videos as I (and no doubt many others are) am very interested in how they work.

  • Will do but not sure on how to post pics and videos . My knew pup is doing well and is copying the Weimaraner in most things . Although he has a strong interest in birds than fur scent but at 12 weeks I will just let things develope as nature intended..

  • The easiest way to post pictures and videos is to put them on a site like Photobucket and hotlink them here. Hope to see some of your pup! :)

  • How do I use photo bucket as I have some pics of him in the bush and their first tracking job a sambar hind

  • Photobucket is a free site where you can upload your pictures. Once you do that, you can copy and past the image link here. Would love to see the pictures!

  • I hope you can see what he looks like Les ( basenji) is 3 months old and his big brother is Mac (Weimaraner) is 6 months old. As you can see Les just loves Mac and copy's him which makes my training a hell of a lot easier. He sit's well recalls to hand signal and will stay for me until 20 metres at present. I don't push him with anything I just let him do things at his pace . Having Mac for him to copy is my biggest asset. As you can see after a 30 yd track Mac was hesitant to get close to the deer but Les shows no fear , the pic was taken 30 seconds after we fond the hind as then I spent the next 3 minutes praising the pups.and start butchering. I will continue taking him up the bush every Saturday and take every deer they put up so as they learn what it is all about . So far they have given me great pleasure watching them learn to do what their ancestors did.

  • Great pics - he's a brave boy. Love it when he sleeps on his big brother.
    Keep posting!

  • Very interesting. Thanks for posting. He's a good looking boy. Not too confident yet, but I'm sure that will come.

  • Welcome to the basenjiforums,it's a interesting forum.

  • Yes my pups doing well , to date I have taken 3 deer off my boys and having trouble posting pics. Les is developing into a nice dog so much so that I got feedback for the dog groomer down the road who just happens to be a credited show judge that he is the best basenji she has seem . This put the lady she told nose out of joint as her dogs who were being groomed at the time both have Australian titles. He has impressed all that have seem him in the field as he works just like my Wei . They are truly two peas in a pod . The other day I introduced my Wei to water not to be outdone little Les followed him in swam the river and showed that he is a better swimmer than the Wei . I just may have one hell of a dog on my hands.

My heart breaks reading your wonderful story of Dinah - it is so clear she is a huge part of your heart -you will have such wonderful memories of her when it is her time to give up the pain. I also do not believe dogs don't have souls - of course they do - the unconditional love they give, the way they try to help when you are emotionally suffering, the joy they get when they see you coming after a separation - all these and more are proof they are very soulful. A loving companion dog is God's gift. All our hearts are with you, and our tears flow with yours. God bless.

I look forward to your pictures. I'm a technophobe too - I keep telling myself I can do it but so far haven't posted any. One of my bitches was spoiled for the show ring by such a judge who didn't know how to approach a hound (although he was a Saluki judge and should have!). She was experienced at showing as well but was traumatised because when she backed away at his front on, silly voice approach she nearly fell from the table! Of course she blamed the fall on his approach. I worked on her intensively but to no avail. Yes, Basenjis on the whole are friendly and they never forget a friend either!

I agree with the others that this is not a common practice among BCOA breeders. I am sorry that this happened to you and yes, you should get your deposit back.

Welcome and kudos to you for helping with rescues! It sounds like Kowboy was a great introuction to the breed. I'm sorry for your loss of him and Indy. this is a great place to share and keep memories alive. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a speedy relocation back to your family in CA!
