  • What size crate would you guys say is best for an adult Basenji to comfortably stay in for a few hours at a time? I'm looking at various places to get an idea of crate pricing, and there are so many different sizes. :o

  • My personal preference is a 300 series size wire crate… I use General Cage brand that fold flat when not in use or traveling. The size I use is 21 3/4 W x 30 L x 24 H
I have used these at home for all my B's over the years.. I also have that size in the RV for travel... However in my Van I use the small 200 size... which is fine for short trips... or shows... easier to lug around at shows...

Let's also consider that when you chase your dog, the dog thinks it's a game and will run away from you. Like... "you can't catch me!" Man, Basenji's can bolt! On the other hand, when you are the one running away, the dog instinctively joins you because you are part of the dog's family/pack. This is not to be confused with a learned command to chase an assailant, in Police work, for example. That would be a totally different game of chase.

@zande - I have place pups at 9wks, but typically to prior Basenji owners, they know the "ropes"... also I do eyes at 9wks, so 10 works better for me in placing pups and yes...(LOL) mine are raised in the home, no kennel.... and the breeders that I know that use kennel runs, still have their pups in the house for house time and "education".....

We just started using a target stick and clicker. so far Buddy can do a full circle on his hind legs. just a trick for Jocelyn to play with Buddy while she waits for her individuals in Jrs instead of hand stacking Buddy the WHOLE TIME and getting him/her frustrated, tired, and bored just before it really counts that he is alert and ready to go for the judge.
