Russian Government paying to kill dogs

Off Topic
  • Just read an article today that the Russian government has hired a company to poison stray dogs before the Olympics…apparently Russia has a large stray population and feel these dogs will be a threat to the games and are therefore actively poisoning them, and calling them "nothing more than biological trash"...it breaks my heart to see these pictures and the thought of these poor dogs; who through no fault of their own are homeless and now dying an awful death.

  • Very sad what happens in these countries that decide to hold the Olympics and then only decide to do a quick fix with their problems be it stray dogs or homeless people and then such a horrible way to die by poison, don't they realise the world is watching ohh that's right the world watches as these horrible things happen, always makes me feel so helpless as it breaks my heart too.

  • Ah, Russia…winning the hearts of citizens all over the globe. Their motto is 'if you're too small to have a voice, you don't legally have one'. Their policies know no limits of inhumanity.

I think one of the sickest things I've heard was when Putin cut off child adoptions to the U.S. as a political snub...but was swayed to open up the disabled adoption pool "because Westerners were the only ones willing to adopt them." At least kids with birth defects were able to get the help they needed, because Russia considered them too inferior and costly to hold onto. Birth defects primarily caused by the alcohol and drug abuse that isn't remotely being addressed.

That country is like one giant Florida.

Sorry about that....no Team Russia for me, thanks. Not going to support them by watching the Olympics this year.

LOVED that Sharron! I sent the link on to my sister and threatened that I am going to teach her Chow some of the tricks - I like the one where the two GS walk beside the guys and sit on cue. Hmmm… I might be able to get my cat Barney to do that. He's the one that already shakes a paw for a treat.

I LOVE It's Me Or The Dog!!! She is awesome. She really lays down the law for people. Especially when the family pack order is all out of whack, which is often.

I saw this show for the first time last night. I didn't think it was sad, because the nice doggy gets adopted into a home where the people have been evaluated and dog is placed with people who are best suited for the individual dog. It's like a reality game and they all know only one home gets the dog. The people know they might not get that dog. But I'm glad that the people who don't win on the show, will probably adopt and rescue another well deserving dog. Just my take . . . but I only saw the one show.

You all make great points and I agree with you all. BUT I still think the public is adding to the population pet overcrowding, by having intact dogs. This should not in my opinion effect show dogs, as this is a whole other catagory. But, if they can give the distinction to cars, motorcycles, and trucks, why can't they give the distinction to show dogs, pet dogs and the like? I mean, its not brain surgery. I do understand everyone having issues with across the board pet legistation…but I think it can be broken up into sections, and handled according. Again, We need responsible show breeders and this is a totally different sect from the bubba's that just put 2 dogs together.
