Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • I ask some test for some buddys, and one of them send his test and already has a month waiting to get the results, well since the kit was listed like received.

Its these the standard time? my own test for my girls, was very fast.. about 2 weeks.

These is normal? somebody know is OFFA is having so many work?

I dont want to disturb OFFA people, so im asking here .. thanks

  • Depends on how/what they have going on, but usually 2 to 3 wks. I would check in it. Have you check the website for the status of the order?

  • yes, is listed as follows:

    Received: 04/11/2013

So 3 weeks, its still on standard delay i think.. i hope get the results these week.

@zande - That is so true Zande, when you have a pack of bitches, the one "low" on the totem pole may be the last to come in heat in many cases... "want a be's" many times will come in first... depends on the pack.

In the days before computers, I kept a book (now its all carefully entered in to special folders on the 'machine' and provides me with a complete history) - total sickness record, including jabs and innoculations (and cost of pills / treatment), of each dog. Weight at birth of puppies, ease of whelping. Onset of seasons, boys starting to react (chuddering and showing interest), date relative to onset of color of the first time the girl's tail went over. Just about every aspect of each dog is carefully logged and catalogued.

Read all the quotes and statements on Fanconi and work out how contradictory it is for yourself. I don't think many UK Basenji owners do a Fanconi 'strip monthly' and certainly some breeders do advocate no test. Are such breeders irresponsible not necessarily. A 'probable' diagnosis on any medical condition is hardly a scientic diagnosis to say the least but testing is better than not and is certainly better than doing nothing.

@etzbseder: While we're at this, when they are neutered, how long do you have to keep them from licking? Can they lick in 4 days? or do you have to wait like 7-8 or what? Not till the incision is well on the way to be healed (which would mean the incision is closed..)…. 4 days is not long enough... IMO
