"Pushing the Shots" at 4:31. Remember as you watch that the American Animal Hospital Association Canine Vaccine Guidelines referenced in this news article show distemper, parvo & hepatitis vaccines have a proven MINIMUM duration of immunity of 7 years by challenge and up to 15 years serologically.

The 2003 American Animal Hospital Association Canine Vaccine Guidelines http://www.leerburg.com/special_report.htm state on Page 18 that: ?We now know that booster injections are of no value in dogs already immune, and immunity from distemper infection and vaccination lasts for a minimum of 7 years based on challenge studies and up to 15 years (a lifetime) based on antibody titer.? They further state that hepatitis and parvovirus vaccines have been proven to protect for a minimum of 7 years by challenge and up to 9 and 10 years based on antibody count.

Canine parvo type 2, distemper, adeno type 1 and parainfluenza: "These results suggest that the duration of serological response induced by modified-live vaccines against CPV-2, CDV, CAV-1 and CPiV…vaccines, is beyond 18 months and may extend up to 9 years. Accordingly, these vaccines may be considered for use in extended revaccination interval protocols as recommended by current canine vaccine guidelines." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23186088

  • Definitely inform yourself re vaccines and find a Vet you can trust, know with my previous dog he was getting vaccines I didn't want him to have and had previously asked not to have, trust my older Vet but not the junior vet that works at the practice who is pushy and gives the I know better talk about your pets health re vaccines and raw food. Happy with having Kaiser titre tested and can't wait till cat can also have his done.

    Jolanda and Kaiser

  • @stash:

    I agree wholeheartedly!!

  • I asked my last vet, before I found a different one, how much a titer would cost and they had no idea what I was talking about….and then I tried to describe it to the staff and they proceeded to give me quotes on full blood-work.

If anyone knows of a decent vet here in Anchorage, let me know.

See if you can find one near you at these links: American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association http://www.holisticvetlist.com/, Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy http://www.theavh.org/referral/index.php

  • Thanks for the resource, but Alaska tends to be underrepresented in search engines like that; I rarely come up with any results.

But, actually, just kind of a funny side note… I typed in "holistic vet Anchorage" into the Google search engine and the vet I was talking about above popped up as the first result. But, did find one or two at the bottom of the results list that seemed maybe legitimate. So I appreciate the idea.

I hope you can manage to find a homeopathic/holistic veterinarian somewhere that seems to be a good fit for you.

  • Any vet who is not aware of the guidelines and titres isn't one who stays informed enough to be my vet. Any vet who PRETENDS they don't know and tries to push unnecessary vaccine– ditto.

Thanks for the post, will share in other dog groups.

  • Okay I watched it… have to say even though I love Dr Marty, I think he is absolutely wrong about yearly teeth cleaning. Research upon research shows dogs over even 3 have issues. A yearly cleaning is not, imho, excessive if the dog shows any tartar build up.

  • just one reason why I switched to raw, even only after 3 weeks, my 12 and 11 y/o are looking and feeling better! Teeth are cleaner too!

actually there was a discussion on the Clean Run groups about cooling coats. I know CR sell several different types and CR is very good about testing what they sell.

At the beginning there were a couple of little spots, this was about three weeks ago, I thought that they could have been the result of playing at the dog park so I just put a little bit of aloe vera on them, but then they started to show on different spots and not only on the black but on the white coat as well. I do not see him scratching himself on those spots but what I notice is that is getting dandruff, it is like his coat is going through something and all that comes to my mind is the food, I do not know.

Treating heartworm infected dogs.. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?A=610 No offense intended, but the Beloved Bulldogs site was not written by a vet and seems a bit dated to me. Having had a dog treated for heartworm years ago, believe me the arsenic treatments can be dangerous and painful. (See above link)
