  • Hi! I'm a new member in search of my Basenji. I had a wonderful Basenji, Bear, when I was growing up. It's a two cat household and I'd love to add a cat friendly Basenji to the mix, and also meet and learn more about the Basenji community out there.

Every single person who loves the breed has a right to care when irresponsible breeders get support. I am sorry you don't get that. Nor was it s lecture...it was facts.

Welcome! I have seen red and white Shibas that looked just like a long haired basenji. You could have a shiba-basenji mix, perhaps. He is a very cute dog, I see why you are in love. They are hard to resist! For about $60 there is a DNA test if you are really curious…..

@Scampy: Hello, everyone! I am so excited to have stumbled upon this forum! I belonged to Basenji Companions until last year, and I miss the community and advice. I have one basenji, a 10-year-old red & white male named Toby. I adopted him six years ago as a "golden opportunity" dog when his show/breeding days were over. He shares the house with three humans and a cat. (We may be inheriting another cat, but don't tell him…I'd sort of promised him a little sister.) Any other west Michigan folk out there? I was born in Kalamazoo! Welcome to the forum! Tabatha
