Rescue calendars for BRAT, basenji photos for next year.

Basenji Rescue
  • Each year, BRAT sponsors a calendar photo contest. BRAT volunteers and
adopters submit photos of their basenjis and the BRAT family then votes for
    their favorites.

The winning photos are featured on a calendar which we sell to raise money
to help rescue basenjis. Many of the dogs we rescue are featured on this
calendar. This year, we had more than 400 entries.

The voting for the 2007 calendar has just concluded and I am pleased to
report that you can view the top fifty entries on our website at:

    http://www.basenjirescue.org/CalendarContest/default.asp

After seeing these photos, we hope that you will order one of our calendars.
The calendars are on glossy paper and are professionally printed. Jacque
Holdaway has designed the calendar for the past few years and does an
outstanding job–-we guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

BRAT calendars sent to domestic addresses cost only $23.00, including
shipping. Payment may be made by check or money order payable to BRAT, Inc.

There is no limit on the number of calendars you may order. Buy a few and
give to your friends and relatives! We will begin shipping calendars in
October. We are only printing 750 calendars and when they are sold out we
won't be able to get any more---so please order early to be sure you can get
    one.

The calendar project is our biggest fundraiser of the year. All of the net
proceeds from the project go directly to the dogs-no one in BRAT receives
any salary or other compensation. Last year, we were able to pay vet bills
for more than 40 dogs just from the money we made selling calendars.

The order form is found at:

Thank you for your continuing support!

  • Oh my gosh! Those pictures are wonderful! Those dogs are just too cute!
I have to order a calendar!
    Thanks for sharing that.

  • Don't forget, you can give you vet one for next year, your local humane society to help them know what a basenji looks like…you dog sitter.
Yes, shameless plug for this great cause!

  • Thanks.
Anything to help fund rescue and teach folks what b's really look like.

  • You are so right. 3 Vets have seen Duke and didn't know what breed he was. One of them said he could be up to 10 different mixes - "mutt". 4 mos. after bringing Duke home, a groomer suspected him a Basenji! Thankfully, I found some very helpful Basenji websites and now Duke's a believed full-blood Basenji. I am buying (2) calendars and will give one to our Vet's office.

These are wonderful pictures. I'm so happy to know what breed Duke is as it's been just over 2 weeks now. I'm learning so much here in this forum.

  • :) :) :) Bumping this because BRAT NEEDS MONEY badly.. please folks, buy a calendar, buy one for friends for presents! Help support the rescue.:) :) :)

I rescued a young Sheltie/Basenji mix many years ago from a Columbus OH shelter for BEAR-Basenji Education and Rescue. She was trouble for the shelter and was kept in a separate area. She loved to lure course and she also would go after balls and bring them back to you! Looked just like a Basenji but with longer fur and her tail was not tightly curled. Dr. Tracy used to joke that we could trim her and get an ILP number from AKC! She found an excellent home. Jennifer

Reading the story in the first link, I didn't look at the others after that, literally made me nauseous. It's hard to imagine a person could do that to any living creature and I hate the fact that animal abuse laws have not been updated and therefore do not give out as harsh of punishments as they should.

I posted a new thread re 2 of these b's who are having issues in their foster home and need help. I will share it with you all. 2- 3 yr old b's need fosters/homes, from pm bust –------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is a pair of the b's who were taken from the puppymill that closed. We really need a smart basenji home to foster and or adopt. Sharron I imagine they will be open to be moved to any near by states. Wilma (brindle) and Wanda (red and white), both three years old and from the SD group, are currently being fostered in central LA. They are very afraid of men and not doing well in their current foster home. If anyone in the southern states, TN or AR would be willing and able to foster them both together, please notify me. I would like to place them in a foster-to-adopt home if available. If you do not live in the area listed but can help with transportation to your location I will consider moving them out of the area. If you are traveling through LA and would not mind a couple furry passengers, let me know. They ride well in crates.
