Wanting a local breeder… Help???

    Hello fellow Basenji lovers! I am looking for a reputable breeder here in Alaska. Anyone have a good contact? I am willing to go to Seattle if I must. Finding one here would be fabulous though. I want one by Christmas for my kids (9&4). They have been asking for a dog for three years, and I have done my research, and want this amazing breed! Thanks to any and all for your help!;)

    Have you ever met a basenji? There are few good breeders in British Columbia as well.

    Contact the Basenji Club of America for breeders list and consider adopting through BRAT (Basenji Rescue and Transport). That said, I really don't consider a basenji a great first dog for children that age–Not your typical dog for sure.

    If you are interested in visiting a Basenji in person… feel free to email me and we can get that set up for you. There are a number of Khani's Basenjis in Alaska and I am sure their folks would love to share their babies with you. This would give you a better idea if you really do want a Basenji.

    We bought a puppy from a backyard breeder near Caldwell, He too was born 01/01/16 so they must be litter mates. The woman who sold him to us said she would send the papers, but never did. I can tell you the pups were well cared for and in excellent health. We met the parents and they were friendly and looked healthy. Our pup tested negative for Fanconi's. Our dog, Ben, is the greatest. He is trickster and a goof and can jump like goat. [image: 1582071093225-ben-resized.jpg]

    To all of you who lost a dog , please never give up!!! I just got a call from one of the basenji owner living in NJ, they lost their baby on August, she is 17 yeas old, please if you know someone around you just recently found an old basenji let me know, here is info Hi, my friend's dog went missing this morning on Valley Road between Jackson Valley Road and Jane Chapel in Mansfield. She is a red and white Basenji and her name is Cheyene. I don't have an actual pic of her but found a pic of her breed online. Please call Wade at 908-616-8338 if you find her. Thanks!!     @hamez: We got Tupper from Arubmec Basenjis in California. Another breeder from New Jersey Doris Daniels helped us find him. Well that would be Pat Cembura…ggg... I know her well... and the litter.... congrats.... I still would have him checked by a Vet to make sure he doesn't have a UTI... and then if there is not a problem... it just might be that he is marking the blanket, "if" this is really the only place he is doing this.... Puppy boys are pretty well known for "dripping".... gggg

    I agree that having a companion for your dog is helpful. My 2 b's sleep on the bed when we are are work…unless they are sunning themselves outside in the summer keeping an eye on the yard. We have a doggie door and its helpful...but I wouldn't let a single dog have access to the outside, as they might see some dog they want to play with and go over/under the fence. My 2 have never even tried to climb out. But I believe its cause they are together.

    @nobarkus: If you do need to have your Bs go on thyroid, get it from Omaha Vaccine. It's very cheap at about .02/tab compared to the vet at $1/tablet. That's where I got mine. They will need your vets OK for the prescription. www.omahavaccine.com Both my german shepherd mix (spayed) and B (neutered) were on soloxine for many years. I got it very reasonably priced from my vet–it wasn't $1/tablet--are you sure it was that expensive? Tyler and Zoey had their thyroids tested, and both are in normal range at this time. My other two were probably middle aged when they had to start thyroid pills. I never used a generic--only soloxine--and it seemed to work fine--I'd get their thyroids tested periodically--but the dose never needed to be adjusted for them.
