The Basenji we meet last Wednesday has something very special about her. Her owner has epilepsy and her dog lets her know when she is going to have a seizure.
Had her since she was a puppy and just one day the dog acted funny and then short time after that the owner had a seizure. Now the dog tells her.
Has anyone had this happen or know about it?
Beautiful dog and so smart.Rita Jean

I've heard of birds and other animals who let their owners know when they are about to have seizures. Very cool.

I too have heard of animals doing that, but I have never encountered one. Such a special B.

My mom's boy Cole alerts her when her blood sugar is off.

I have seen TV shows about such dogs. It does not seem to be breed specific, just relationship specific. If a dog loves its human it will do anything to help them. And some people wonder why we love them!?!

When someone is going to have a seizure or heart attack the body chemistry/cells change and emits an odor only a dog can detect. Also when someone has the very beginnings of cancer whether internal or on the skin a dog can detect that as well.

To bad we cannot find a way for a dog to tell us when it is cancer.

I saw that on a show once with skin cancer…her moles were all covered in band aids and the pup only went for the one that was cancerous. Amazing!

That is great wish there was a way to understand just what they smell and what it is. Very smart little babies.
