    @cheryl-goodman - Have you talked to your girl's breeder? Have you completed all health testing and recorded it with www.offa.org as public record, especially DNA testing for Fanconi and PRA? Have you done any showing or performance events with your girl?

    I understand what you are talking about. I have actually talked to someone about leasing one of my dogs. But, it is with the intent of me sending him overseas for a few years then getting him back after he has been used for breeding an been able to have a wonderful show career over there. As Pat and Lisa said, this is not common in the US. Personally, I would want to know WHY they want two dogs. Training two Basenjis is NOT the same as training two Afghans or Beagles. I could see wanting to move to a less hairy breed, as she has uber amounts of hair in her place I am sure! You have to think… do your puppy to be the one that gets the short end of the stuck and you get it back and have to "fix" what wasn't done in raising that you would have done? There are so many what-ifs to ponder to decide if this is really the route you want to go. Also, you have to know that if she gets a male and a female, the likelihood of an accident is always there... so you would want to make sure if the other is a carrier, yours MUST be a clear, and vice versa. Better to be safe than sorry. You can email me off the boards if you want, I might be able to help you.

    Fopaws is great. I actually bred to one of their boys and since then we have become extended family. They are wonderful people with wonderful dogs!

    @Vanessa: We use those dog bath whipes that you can purchase from the local pet store. They work great. Baths are horrible in our house and I often am also taking a bath with our boy since he flings about in the tub. I get soaked! It just isn't a good experience. Sorry, but that is one of the silliest things that I have heard in ages. **I'm sorry; to what is this referring? :confused: I have seen dogs that are uglier than sin.. in the show ring no less! People that can't breed a decent looking domestic basenji aren't going to be able to breed a decent looking African basenji! **Uglier than sin? Really? I really prefer health and temperament and function as breeding goals. IMHO. How is that for a bunch of African beauties??? **Your dogs are quite lovely. So are my two Jasiri-Sukari B's. But neither would win in a show. We think they're beautiful, too. And they both have sweet temperaments. Lucky us. :) s.
