• Ok, this is going to to be difficult to describe because not all basenji's have it. But on the neck some have excess hair that sort of looks like wings. (lol) Can you trim that for the show ring and if so with thinning shears or clipper with comb attachment?

    Any suggestions would be great!:D

Are you talking about the white collar hair?… and regardless... you can smooth it out.. but you want to use a stripping knife.. or if you are used to using thinning shears, you can just open them and use one side of the shears.. just watch your fingers.... and you just want to "comb" with the lay of the hair.

  • sorry about the double post

  • yes, the hair on the collar. I will try the stripping. thanks

If you have not used a stipping knife before, go easy until you get the hang of it…. always go with the hair......

  • my tri-ing dog has "wings" on his neck. it's where the hair from the top of the neck goes down and the hair from the underneath goes up, so where they meet (along the neck under the ears) it sticks out like a cowlick. if i'm showing him, i'll use thinning shears to take it off as it makes his neck look thick. if you're not use to using thinning shears, do things slowly. take one snip, brush, step back and look before doing another snip

  • Thank for the help. I will wait to test till after this weekend because after the shows this weekend I won't show again till after the new year. I will let you know how it goes. 🙂
