    I don't know much about Jim Teare. Only that the pups were taken there for their initial shots.
    I like the vet I have now up in union city…not to mention he adores B's!
    How could someone not like basenji's??? :(

    He is "afraid" of them…. gggg and none of mine liked him either... my OJ would start to growl the minute I made the corner by his office. Jim used to be a partner with the org. Vet in the practice (Old Doc) who was great... then Doc retired and sold the practice to Jim... After he almost killed Kristii doing a tooth extraction with anaesthesia (her kidneys shut down to 25%) and then told me I was nuts that the anaesthesia was the problem (and I had consulted with another Vet that breeds Basenjis) I knew that was enough for me... Lucky for him that she recovered without any lasting after effects...

    I made an appt for this monday with Dr. Cook. Rather than waiting a week to see her I had her squeeze me in. :)

    Dr Cook was the one that did her puppy exam, so "she" Kiya should be on file with them. Just tell them it is the Leighton/Troyna litter.

    But I am surprised that you didn't get a copy of the eye exam with your paperwork?

    I don't have all of Kiya's paperwork. Since Ken's health changed everything has been put on hold.

    Well good news is that she had her eye exam and that when you take her in, it is the same Vet…. Dr. Cook is a great eye vet

    So we took Kiya to see Dr. Cook the other day to take a look at her red eyes. Dr. Cook ran some tests on her and checked to make sure she was producing enough tears. All the tests came back fine except for a little sediment which had developed on her cornea. That was due to eye drops which my first vet (Adobe) prescribed. Basically the eye drops were damaging her eyes! :mad: Dr. Cook said that we needed to immediately stop using those drops and her eyes should return back to normal.
    The doc mentioned that one of the reasons Kiya had red eyes was due to the fact that since she is a tri, they had a tendency to not have pigment in the surrounding eye which also causes redness.
    So as it turns out….Kiya will be fine. :D

    Good news and interesting… I had never heard that before about a Tri... and none of mine had/have red eyes... learn something new every day....

    Apparently in the corners it is common for Tri's to be a little redish.
    Its when you open the eye and if you see red in the top or lower portion is when you should be concerned.
    I am still a little upset over what Adobe did. Dr. Cook said that those eye drops were damaging her eyes! I feel awful. All this time I was thinking I was helping her when in turn, I was slowly harming her. Gggrrrrrrr.

    What kind of drops were they? And I hope you gave them (Adobe) a "piece" of your mind about giving them to her…

    Nice to hear some good news on the forum for someone, such a shame sometimes even the simple things take time to sort out, glad your eye problems are solved to the point of being a possible allergy to something rather then being something more serious, in saying that allergies are a pain in the butt. Yay for Becca and Tucker. jolanda and Kaiser

    Maybe allergies or a touch of conjunctivitis? My B has had both and the vet gave us some eye drops that took care of it. Hope your guys feel better soon!

    We did a biopsy a week into it and it was not cancerous, so waiting for the bump to go away was the only other option. I though surgery would be too intrusive in the nose area. Kiya had to endure two weeks of wearing the cone day and night to prevent her from scratching her nose. She seems to get all kinds of things around her nose, just recently she got bitten by a bee nosing around in the grass and was back into the cone for a week.

    Of course required for artificial… reread and don't know where you got I didn't know that. I said: As for proving, if you are not using semen, you don't have to test generally. Pretty clear I know if you use semen (ie not live cover) you have to test. But you ALSO have to test when producing lots of litters. I saw no reason to get into the specifics there. But let me state it clearly so you don't argue more on item that has nothing to do with the issue.. If you use semen (ie not live cover) you have to do DNA. If you do live cover, generally you do NOT have to do DNA unless you 1. use more than one stud 2. the stud produces a certain number of litters (not looking up number) and a few other situations. And Pat, chill, really. I didn't say looks was the ONLY. My point, which I stated repeatedly, is that the African dogs also don't KNOW for sure if pure basenji.

    If she's loosing hair then it sounds like it might be something more than just stress-of-an-intruder. The stray could have brought something nasty along. Maybe there's mites or something. I would take both to the vet.

    My first Basenji would have nice bright white eyes. I would take her mnt biking with me and her eyes would be red and watery. My other 2 never experienced this. It's probably allergies. The older I get, the worse my allergies get. I have also developed new allergies. Things like Russian Olive never bothered me, now my eyes start flowing and my sinuses become highly irratated. If the concentration is high, I have trouble breathing. Talk your vet about OTC allergy medications and dosage. If your Basenji shows the same symptoms indoors and they do not improve, consider having your ducts cleaned and an electronic air cleaner installed.
