Anyone from Cheshire, CT area?

Basenji Talk
  • Hello! I may be relocating to Cheshire, CT and I was wondering if there are any B-owners from that area of CT that can tell me if there are dog parks around, or give me advice about kennels if I ever have to leave for a weekend or something? Or if you are close enough, maybe we can arrange play dates when I get into town!

  • Welcome to the Northeast!! :D I'm sure you'll like it here. I'm from NJ a couple hours away but I'm sure there's some CT people out here :)

@rhughes89 said in Has Anyone had a Basenji this vocal?: Have you ever had a dog this vocal? Oh yes! My boy Sunny would vocalize on cue, and even if you picked him up he would continue until he was done. I have video somewhere of him howling while being held upside down.

I think that Basenji people have to have a special sense of humor to choose this breed in the first pace, and Basenjis have the same sense of humor, doing things that crack us up and then cuddling up and demanding attention and love. Of course we love our Basenjis and want to gush about them...it comes with Basenji territory!!!!

Over here people aren't even guessing what breed Voodoo might be. The only thing they ask me is if he is a good hunter, what country he came from and what you can hunt with them. That's all they are intrested in, not one has asked what breed he actually is.

I was reading up a bit on fanconi and found this website that states as part of the protocol: (http://www.basenji.org/ClubDocs/fanconiprotocol2003.pdf) 2. Any good quality dry food may be fed, with the addition of at least one can per week of HIGH PROTIEN ?wet meat? mammal meat based dog food (Beef, Lamb?etc.) to replace long-chain amino acids and phosphorus. Poultry based foods have proven far less effective in management of this disorder then mammal based meats. The only exception to this high protien diet, in this protien-losing uropathy, is documented renal failure (increasing BUN/CREATININE). In this type situation, see the ?RENAL FAILURE HYBRID PROTOCOL? section later in this instruction set My dog doesn't have this but I feed Wellness Core and she loves it. I also feed senior wellness to my older chow who's a picky eater and just add a bit of wet sometimes and he gobbles it up :)
