    Hi Erin again. My thread was labeled help me please so im making a new thread to update all the wonderful people that helped me out. I found the owner of the dog, and took him home yesterday. His name is Bandito and the little girl he belongs to was glad to have him back. So Carlie (8) and Bandito
    (1) were reunited! I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice and help. Aside from that I understand everyones love for these dogs. I have fallen in love and was heartbroken to take him home! Though the reunion was more than worth it. Thanks again for everything, I could never say enough about these wonderful companions or the people that love them! Thankyou for helping.

    Yea! Go Erin! You did a wonderful thing. I know of a certian Basenji rescue group where you could adopt a B that you could snuggle on for years :D:D

    That's such a good thing you did. How did you find the owner? Did you check the microchip? Or did someone just reply to the posters? Did you find out how far away he had wandered? Did the owners say how he got away?

    He follows thier little female beagle. ( her name is Baby, I feel like stealing that little sweetheart ) When she escapes so does he. They wandered approximately 10 miles away, i know exactly where he lives now. And I was actually taking him to get scanned when a lady called my friend who printed the posters for me, and claimed the dogs. We had put posters on every door on the street that someone had seen the dogs, and the rest on stops and mailboxes. So the posters did all the work and I donated the gas for the ride. He was annoying in the truck but he was so funny and curious, my belly hurt from laughing at him - I couldnt be mad. So thats how it happened - the end!

I have bought a puppy sling for my new boy so I can take him to the woods with Hoover, and let him meet lots of people and thoroughly socialise until he has had his shots. I don't intend to deprive Hoover of her freedom just because of the puppy. He will learn to walk on a leash but mostly he'll be the hunter nature intended him to be.

    Hi there. I would do some DNA testing on him. However, if you go to the Colorado Basenji Rescue website, there is a mix at the bottom of the page. There appears to be some similarities. You could also email Peggy of CBR with your photos and ask her. She has been working with Basenji and Basenji mixes for a long, long time.

    As mine age I try to keep a bit of weight on them because I know they may reach a stage when they just don't keep weight as the organs weaken.

    It was actually the vet tech wasn't the most brilliant thing on the planet… needless to say I found another vet the next week and they think she might have some bulldog in her... what a mix. I believe that she definitely could have some bulldog in her judging by the way she lays around the house.

    @cmd: Our 12yr old Ramsey is from one of Linda's Basenji's and a very sweet guy. Have you tried Hacker's Basenji's? Ann is an active and very responsible breeder and she's near Danville. I can't say enough good things about her. We've had 2 of her dogs and both have had great temperaments. She's friends with a lot of other breeders in the area as well. If she doesn't have any available you could also try Select Basenji's near Dayton. I think she was co-breeding last year. We have a Select and she's a great little dog – a ball of energy though! I too was looking for a Basenji last year at this time. We lost our 14 yr old also year to date and felt a puppy would help everyone move on. Sort of became a mission. Puppies can be hard to come by this late, but we did find several. Nope, Tracy's breeding didn't take this year…but I think she is planning one for spring :)

    i found the only thing that gets Sandies attention now days is a rolled news paper… i dont hit her with it, just the site of it and me slapping it against my legg, usually makes her stop what ever she is doing...usually its nothing major... chasing the cats...or if she just wont stop beating me up after we play...
