    Hi all!
    We are very excited to have found this forum! My name is Audrey and my boyfriend is Conal. Our two devil B's are Princess Sophie Cat and Good Ol' Stick. Sophie (a black and white girl) is over four years old and Stick (our red and white boy) is ten months. They are both rescue dogs from shelters in CT and NY. We all reside in Connecticut on the Thames River. Sophie and Stick's hobbies include looking out the windows at boats passing, soaking up as much sun as they can, stalking the evil paper towels in our house, and partcipating in the Basenji-500 (no space too small). :p

    Welcome to the forum. Great story too. I especially like the description of your other dog "Betty the Sheprador Chowtriever ." That's Funny! My basenji/whippet mix also came from a local shelter. She wasn't there long enough, or perhaps they didn't know much about bs, but they only had her listed as whippet mix. Didn't take long for a dog savy friend of mine to mention the word "basenji." No doubt in my mind, she is basenji and something. I picked her out and my mother paid for her. Best Christmas present I ever got!

My part time sometime job during the summer is as an operator of a tour boat at Mystic Seaport. Stellabella assists me. I invite you to read the story of Stellabella on the introductions page.     I wouldn't recommend getting a basenji until you've organized your new schedule with baby. basenjis are wonderful dogs, but require a lot of attention and stimulation. If you can't provide that, he could become a frustrated dog and cause mischeif. I've also read that they aren't the best with children. I haven't had the best experience with my basenji and daughter. It has a lot to do with the fact that we can't give him sufficient attention and exercise like he needs. he also hasn't adjusted to my daughter's presence either. that may not be a problem for you because you're having baby first then dog. they say its always a plus because it allows the child to establish a dominence over the dog, since child was there first. i don't want to be a sour apple, but i just want to let families with children know that it can be difficult and dangerous if proper care isn't given. its also unfair to the precious breed if they cant have the active life they need and crave.
