Basenjis are perpetual two year olds. If your attention is on anything that is not them, they feel the need to bring you back to "reality". A Basenji considers himself/herself the center of your universe and expects to be treated accordingly, the exception being when they are getting into mischief and don't want you to know about it. Otherwise your undivided attention is expected, and demanded, especially if it is obvious that something else is foremost in your thoughts. As the nominal owner (otherwise known as "staff") of a Basenji, you are expected to know that! 😉
Basenji Mix ?
-
Hi guys, we adopted Noel from animal shelter in Portugal 3 months ago. At first we suspected it was a Podenco mix but now we think it could be a Basenji mix as well. Mainly because of the curled-up tail, he trots like a horse and he is very clean and hardly smells like a dog. I would be interested in what you think! Thanks!
-
Maybe in addition. He can bark normally but also does kind of the typical Basenji yodelling sometimes, but mostly at home
-
How tall is he and what does he weigh? Would like to see a side view standing....
The only sure way to know is a DNA test. Nice looking dog!
-
@eeeefarm Thanks He is like 15,748 Inces (40cm) and like 26 Pounds (12kg)
He walks often like he owns the park
We will try a dna test as well
-
Height and weight would fit. Not as square as a Basenji, but the picture of him trotting is suggestive to me. Certainly possible. Always hard to tell with mixed breed dogs. DNA tests sometimes spit out surprising results!
-
@eeeefarm Thank you for your opinion. I'll write again when we have the result of the DNA test
-
He's a handsome fella regardless, though I see some B in there!
-
Looks can be so deceiving- regardless he is beautiful and lucky to have found a happy home. The only way to know for sure I’d a DNA test. ️

@Kembe 1 hardly any podengo dna on file and honestly the guess your breed tests are just that. Phot in field looks more podengo Close up basenji. Enjoy your dog. Fyi I raised basenjis since 1982 and Podengo grande since 2007
