• When we try to pick Sahara up, or move her towards us when she is sleeping she will make this sound like a cry, or shrill. The first time she did this I thought I had hurt her, and I would frantically look to see if I had. To my surprise I had not hurt her, she just didn't like what I was doing to her. She is soooo spoiled, it is funny that she acts this way. The more I know about my Basenji the more I think they are human like. My cousin says that Sahara is human. haha!!!!!

  • That is funny, on the chow board people were discussing screaming. My chows have never screamed, but boy my basenji have.

Basically your best bet is to ignore. If you pay no attention, do what you want to do, eventually they learn the screaming won't help. I always remember when Arwen was about 7 mos and Leora spilled a little WATER on her. She screamed like someone had hit her with a baseball bat. Can we say drama queen?

  • Noobie cries. Put her in her crate. Any isolation when she doesn't care to sleep…a closed door for example. Move her when she's asleep?....growl an cuss just like me!

  • Last night they both cried for what seemed like FOREVER…ugh! I don't even know why?? 😕 They were fine right before we put them in their crates for the night & then out of nowhere whimpering & crying non-stop. This is very unlike them...usually they fall asleep on the couch & then they get moved to their crates & they keep snoozing.

It was so bad that at 2AM  we decided to take them outside to see if they had to go potty which they did but when we brought them back in it was the same incessant crying & whimpering. I gave up & just said let them cry 😞 I really needed to sleep!

  • Cali does this all of the time if I am trying to move her to a different spot on the bed so I can lay down:) Or if I am inconveniencing her in any way when she is tired. She can be so dramatic.:)

I would have had those babies in bed with us. Sahara knows that I hate to hear her cry, I am soooooooooo easy, haha
