Are there any Lehigh Valley, PA area Basenji owners who would like to have a playdate

    I live in the Lehigh Valley area in Pennsylvania, and I have an 8 yr old female basenji who loves to play & has never met another basenji. She gets along with all dogs, but I think she'd really enjoy meeting a kindred spirit. We also have an 8 yr old English Shepherd (think Lassie), and she spends hours grooming him, but he never returns the favor! They play non-stop & Foxy has yet to meet a dog (or any animal) that she doesn't like. Are there any other Basenji owners in my area that would like to get the dogs together for a play date?

    Hi Tasia. I see that it has been a couple of years since you posted but we are in the Lehigh Valley and have a Basenji mix who would love a play date. He is only 3 years old though, so you know.

    I think Joan said she has talked to you before. We have 1 10 year old female from Indiana and I think a brother of your younger one - Bourbon who is also 1.5. Joan takes them to Snyder almost daily so if you plan to be there let us know when. Dave

    Find a good positive reinforcement puppy class, like clicker training and you will both have fun. All of mine have earned at least a rally novice obedience title and love the training. There are some things that you should not expect of a basenji such as being outside off lead. They are sighthounds and must be on a lead or in a fenced area at all times. The biggest issue with a house with children is that the children must understand the door can never be left open. My inlaws have a terrible habit of wanting to stand in the doorway and talk as people leave. I have to shoo them outside so the dogs do not try to dart outside given the opportunity. We have had ten basenjis since our son was two, he is now 27 and the basenjis raised him.

    I would love to bring Wheat down, but don't think I can make this show. Sigh. Please post the photos and such to this site. If we can't be there, at least we can share it with you!

    I'm moving to Lakewood, Ohio, about 40 minutes north of Copley, in two weeks!! There are TONS of basenji people in Ohio, spread out all over the state. I've noticed there is a dog park in Lakewood, obviously that's a bit of a drive for you, but perhaps we could get together for a play date! I've also been told that Ohio has a lot of good dog parks, and I know there are a lot of parks and forest trails and stuff to take your dogs to. I have two brindle girls.
