    Hi, I'm really considering getting a Basenji and thought coming here would be a better was of understanding what these dog are all about. Reading info on the internet is definitely different than hearing experiances with all of you.

    @SethS Hi & Welcome Seth! Your new girl is gorgeous!! I just love the red & whites and the brindle & whites! My first girl, Darla was red & white so that color really tugs hard at my heart. My second, Dorie was brindle & white & now, brindles tug pretty hard at my heart too but, I know I can't have the darker brindle....too much like my Dorie. I'm not saying I'd get another red/white just because of the color.....there would have to be more than the color! But your new girl is really gorgeous!! I'm sorry about your other one & I'm sure that you look to see if the gate is closed now. It's sad that we learn a lesson like that but I bet you don't have that accident again! Congrats on your new sweetheart!!

    HI, we don't have many breeders in New Zealand but luckily there was one that had a website which came up when I did a search on the web and was given information about more breeders here. If you do find a breeder please make sure they are a responsible breeder and do all the health testing etc. Lot's of info on this forum regarding this and maybe someone can help further.     Thanks for your warm welcome! I'll ask my daughter to take some digital pics of our Sheba to post! We'll try to get some good forehead wrinkles – when she's got those terrific ears up and forward! Her tail's straight and droopy, though -- that's where the "mix" really shows! So far -- she sometimes reminds me very much of a cat (I know far more about kitties than basenjis.) Even the way she bats a tennis ball about -- "soccer-style" -- is quite feline. But she is NOT aloof. She's definitely a people pooch! A snuggler. I am delighted she's joined the family. Will post pics soon, I hope -- Thanks -- Sheba's Mom

    Welcome Jackboy My husband and I have a red and white Basenji boy 4 1/2 mths called Bandit and a 2yr Lowchen boy called Alfie. We are revisiting obedience for Alfie for first time training for Bandit. We are walking 2 a day with haltis now and what a difference it has made to our walks. Instead of having our arms pulled off, the boys have progressed to walking beside us…. Hooray... and oh so enjoyable.
