  • Hi there,

I'm Melissa. Me and my husband, Bob, recently adopted a brother/sister pair of 5 month old pure Basenjis. My husband volunteers at the local Humane Society and saw the puppies posted online as available for adoption. I sent him there first thing the next morning! We had intended to just adopt the male, but the two were inseparable and the girl has some serious anxiety when her brother is too far away. So with an extremely brief look at each other and a shrug, we adopted both. We cannot believe someone surrendered a pair of pure Basenjis to the Humane Society, and can only think they really didn't know what they were in for. But still! Oh well, they are ours now and we are overjoyed!

We had a Basenji/Terrier mix before and at the time we thought he was pretty Terrier-esque. After adopting these two hellhounds (said with much affection), we now realize he was a LOT more Basenji than we thought! At least we know what we were getting into!

May I introduce you to Charlie Brown and Lucy Van Petme.

@alay Google Northern Basenji Society. On the website you will find contact email addresses. Nothing available for this year now but you might find a breeder and get onto a waiting list for 2022

MacPack, where is Dogwood Park located? I haven't heard of it. I live in Orange Park and we have a fairly nice one here several miles from me. They too have a large pond and wooded area and plenty of seats, even a few hammocks for us humans. We have had a membership in the past; now we only go sometimes as a visitor.

First off, Welcome to our site of valueable Basenji information. I have learned so much linking into this site, we have lots of laughs as well. My B, Sahara, crosses her legs all the time, she is such a showoff and often has the regal queen look. I love the look myself, they are such beautiful dogs I must say, not that I am partial or anything. Your Piper is so cute, welcome again.

Hi Kiro, Welcome our neck of the woods. I live just a bit past Emmittsburg in PA so I'm not too far. The Mid-Atlantic Basenji Club meets at the Carroll County Agricultural Center right there in Westminster. Our next meeting is 1 June and there will also be a spring fun match that same day. It starts at 0900. There is a Yahoo group for the club that has info about the event. It's fun and games. It's really neat to see so many basenjis in one place. Hope you can make it. It's a nice club to belong to. Karen
