Year end review: Shameless brags

Basenji Talk
  • The ASFA coursing Top 20 list was finally finalized, and so I wanted to recap our past year & brag a little on my girls.
Callie & Lola both finished their ASFA Field Champions (FCh) early last year. Callie went on to finish her AKC Field Champion (FC), earn an ASFA Best in Field & Best in Event as well as an AKC Best in Field. She won a perpetual trophy that will have her name engraved on it. Callie only coursed for 3 months of this year, and managed to end the year in a three way tie for 11th place in ASFA, out of 150 dogs! Callie also earned her Temperament Title (TT) this year, as well as 6 points toward her conformation Championship (C).
Lola is not quite as speedy as other basenjis, but she still loves coursing. She had two very notable accomplishments in coursing this year that caught me completely by surprise because she is considered the "points fodder" dog. First, she earned 2nd place in a stake of 4 basenjis and got her first AKC coursing point ever in June. Second, she was the last dog standing at the end of the weekend of a small trial, and earned the Best in Event trophy by default. Lola is the last dog on earth I would ever expect to earn a trophy of any sort, and I was so proud of her.
Most importantly, they continued to please me every day with their good health and personalities. I hope we have many more years of fun, happiness & health together!

  • Huge congratulations! WTG! You have every right to brag!

  • With those results I would be bragging too! Congratulations on a very successful year and wishing you wonderful accomplishments this year!

  • Congratulations!! What a great year! Definitely something to brag about!

I ditto the sentiments above. Although I have not been tremendously active I do appreciate all the valuable information that is shared here in the Forum. I often come here to answers to my questions or concerns about my 2 B's - Dwjaad and Camerou. aka - Jenga and Rudy. They have both turned 1 years old this month and I am happy to reach this milestone. We passed the year without too much damage to our house and contents when I look at some of the photos on the site. Wow have we been lucky. They are lovely boys who follow me everywhere. Jenga is so fast and it is such joy to see them running through the fields of snow with our german shepard in hot pursuit. They love to play and run in our creek! I know I will continue to come here to find out more about Basenjis. Thank you everyone and a happy holiday to all.

Andrew, Would this be Dr. Tracy Leonard? If so, I co-own a B with her. I believe the next OKIGO lure trial is being held in Columbus in September. Usually Dr. Tracy attends these. You can go to the website and check for this trial. Jennifer

The problem becomes if you are a meek or hyper person in general, that the dog sees through you and it is very hard to pretend to be something you are not 24/7. This where you can learn from your dog / training and take some of the good for yourself. Being a strong leader, fearless, calm & in control. Who could not use some of these qualities?

@Janneke: I really like Malaika and Freya. You can always shorten Malaika to Laika ;) I like Malaika too (I just love african names :D ), Mali for short :)

That's great to hear all went well for you - sounds like you had a fantastic time! We don't have a dog park in my area either & I really hope we find one on our road trip this summer. About the hotel inspections - be careful with that - I'm usually up my female's rear end because I have little trust that her curiosity won't get her into trouble. The first time we stayed @ a "pet friendly" hotel, my B was able to find some random black debis on the chair, stuff under the beds & 2 prescription estrogen pills! I had just had her spayed, but she certainly didn't need all that!! ;)
