    @tanza yes, but Lovebird of the Congo, sadly, only had one litter and then succumbed to a car racing on country lanes so we never knew if she would come in in Autumn next time around. I always figure to get a rest through end of March to May/June from entering litters born during our winter into the d/b before the Australians start whelping and registering their 'winter' litters, born in our summer - sorry electrician working and he turned the power off at the mains . . . where was I ? OK, back on again. Some revert, some don't. Again, its the rich tapestry of Life With Basenjis !

    @liz-falzone Not sure if you are one of the 60 or so would-be Basenji puppy purchasers who has emailed me privately - PC is in the hospital and I am working on my laptop so can't access the list. But that alone does tell you a great deal ! I haven't bred a litter for 12 years now but am still getting enquiries - current breeders are also inundated. We have been weeding through enquirers, putting many people off this challenging breed if they should perhaps look elsewhere, and filling lists of known 2020 winter breeders. Many have been accepting visitors and establishing a relationship. And have closed lists. But breeders this winter seem to be holding their cards close to their chests, Rescues have been rehomed and Breed Clubs don't have many intended pairings listed. I may be able to help but need to know a great deal more about you - location, knowledge of the breed, children, working from home etc. My email addresses are on the websites listed in my signature bloc

    It depends on the breeder. I come from Rottweiler breeding background... we expose puppies to loud noises, really loud, uneven sources, temp changes, etc etc. Getting one at 8 wks, start off slow. I am sort of shaking my head... grew up around hunters and dogs and none cared... but that was the norm. I did find what looks like a reasonable article that might help. Also, I know you are set on a male... but have you considered an older rescue? Brat, CampBasenji and other rescues might have the perfect dog for you if no puppies are available.     Great that you are going to visit and seeing her basenjis first hand. That's one thing I admire about Jean - she is going to do what is best for her dogs and it is great that she is so straight forward - she wants it to work out for the dog and the person adopting. She may know of other breeders that have adults available - ask her when you visit with her - if you still think that basenjis are right for you. They aren't for everyone - my friends constantly ask me - you like these dogs why? hahaha And just so you know and so you won't think it is uncommon, I have 3 that I would say would need a basenji experienced person, my 4th (which is Jean's boy, Ozzy), would probably be the perfect dog for anyone - he's almost an impostor because he is such an easy basenji - but I deserve him after my other three. ;)

    You may also want to look at the basenji rescue group out of Indianapolis- they may have some dogs looking for forever homes. Or you can go to www.allofcraigs.com, and put in basenji in the search field to start your own nationwide search. Keep in mind that many people found cute puppies 4 or 5 months ago and without researching the breed, bought the puppy in the window. At this point, these families are exhausted and frustrated and sick of their bathroom trash being scattered endlessly around the home! :) Perhaps they didn't read their contract, or they bought their pup from a back yard breeder or pet store and didn't have a contract. Those pups are looking for a home, and if you have the patience to help these pups, they will love you forever! (P.S. I found my Lola and Sophie on Craig's List, as did my sister with her boy from St Louis. ):)
