Vet question

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Yesterday was my puppy's first visit to the vet (with us). He is our first Basenji as well as our first experience with this Vet. Upon acquiring my basenji, I signed a contract with my breeder that stated he had to be neutered between 9-12 months. I told this to my vet and she said she disagreed with that and believed he should be neutered by six months because he could start marking and sometimes that that was irreversible. She also suggested to feed him a different food. My breeder recommended Taste of the Wild which is a more natural grain free food. The vet suggested a puppy food like science diet or Iams. I am not sure what to do or who to believe. I do not think my vet was familiar with Basenjis. She said this was the first one she had at her practice. Im not really sure what to do, any suggestions?

The only sounds I can consistently coax out of Jake are the ones where he sounds possessed. Step 1: Flip him on his back Step 2: Tickle/Rub his spine area Step 3: Wait for the demons He'll make other noises when he feels like it but I haven't figured out the "triggers" yet.

Thanks Therese…this vet thing has got me a little flustered. I will give Scarlett a big B hug from you, I'm sure she misses you and Kevin too.

Who would have thought that worms were so interesting. My farm vet insists that dogs be wormed monthly but mine are on a weekly homeopathic wormer. I'm so pleased that Nahla has got rid of hers. And i accept what others have said about the possibility of a pup womitting up a worming tablet.

I think that in the future that it would be important to get a blood sample when or just after she is having the episode…. if it was a plant, critter bite... by now the toxic substance would most likely be gone.

Both Sugar and Dimisi are fastidious cleaners of their private parts. Every once in a while-Shadow doesn't really like cleaning himself-I put a little corn syrup(I'm talking about a dabbing of it) around his private area to facilitate himself cleaning himself.
