    We've had Mr Baroo for almost 3 years now and the whole time we have been curious as to what his ancestry was, as he was originally listed as a Basenji mix. Although he looked like a pb B, Karin has said that because of his very muscular build and really short soft coat she thought he might have some Am Staf Terrier back there somewhere. I, on the other hand kept saying that traits of a full blooded basenji, from markingd, to size and a very pronounced baroo, has never barked. Soooo, to make a long story short I finally had his DNA checked and received the report on his ancestry, the test only went back 4 generations and showed that he was 100% B. We, both Karin and I just about fell over when we read that, so instead of 2 B's and a mix we have 3 total B's. So much for taking a pig in a poke when you adopt rescues.

    Ah yeah though the site that I saw clearly had a picture of a Basenji representing the breed! Your link, they look nothing like Bs

    Ah ok cool thanks, I had something like that when Safi was smaller and it was the most successful for sure. She outgrew it quite quickly though

    I can't listen to that, it would wake my girl up and well... I'm not into a "sing along" just now. ;) I will say that many canines howl and yodel and bay (at the moon, whenever a fire truck passes, etc.). I'm not certain that any one breed is distinctive enough to have a sound all their own, but many a proud owner would probably assert so.

    My undergraduate degree was in geophysics with a minor in applied math. I name all my Basenjis after Indian mathematicians. My current Basenjis are Madhava of Sangamagrama (Madhava for short) and Bramagupta (Bramagupta for short). They do respond to their "short" names.

Jenson and Kalusha both have a "rest-day" today, jenson was very active in the woods the last couple of days, so his limping got a bit worse, and Kalusha was totaly confused yesterday, so time out for one day for them both! @curlytails: That's also very chilling to hear about the Ibizans getting stolen. I hate to wonder about the kind of black market that deals in stolen pedigree dogs. I imagine the burglars targeted the breeder specifically for her dogs? Seems like your everyday thief would find it too difficult to make off with live loot! well the "raterno's"that were also stolen is not even an official recognized dog, only in spain they are recognized as far as I know, and the Ibizans are not of high value there as well as they are quite common type of dog, ofcourse the pedigreed ibizans are rare, even in spain, but they did not steel the pedigrees with them, so we have really no clue why they have been stolen and it really looks like they knew what they were after because they targeted this breeder indeed. It makes it even worse that these 2 male ibizans were from their last litter, they are older people and did not want to breed anymore and now these last pups are stolen :(
