    Anything by Patricia McConnell PhD, or Brenda Aloff, or Terry Ryan. I haven't read it, but I have heard good things about Parenting your Dog, by Trish King.

    I was going to recommend the same thing. These are great & knowledgeable authors.

    I also like Turid Rugaas…she's got great cheap pamphlets on the basics that for me was absolutely priceless. Her method for resolving the pulling problem seems to be working for my dogs. I will be forever indebted to this woman if I manage to have any success with this. :)

    Just a suggestion: When you see him "misbehaving" by chewing on 'less than ideal' items, offer him one of his toys and use the word "trade". In other words, 'chew on this instead', and when he accepts the toy - praise him. And when you see him get the toy on his own, praise him again. It could help him understand that certain toys are just for those times when you want to "rip someone's head off*". (*not meant literally, only in doggy world play)

    Their web site has links to e books for pretty much any breed you can name, and the description of the book is identical (except for the breed name) for all of them. I am guessing not worth the money. http://www.obedient-dog.net/breed-training-ebooks/

    My curry comb has short little nibs very close together. It collects a lot of those little hairs and then I just rinse it under running water using a finger nail scrub brush to clean it out. Takes a less then a minute.

    That's when you know you've accomplished something- when they look at YOU and not the treat. Miles still has some work. Lexi is pretty flawless. She learned it from our Dobie. ;) It just takes consistency. And to be pretty stern when they "mess up"… although most of the time I just had to laugh. Especially after Miles would snatch it and then flop over. :)
