Caruncula swollen?

Basenji Health Issues & Questions
  • Near the lacrimal caruncle (the thing that eye discharge builds up at), it looks a little swollen near one eye compared to the other. It is very subtle, but definitely there and at the eye that he gets the most discharge at after sleep. Anyone else have experience with this? It isn't in the actual eye but right near the outside of it medially, so closer to the nose.

  • Sounds like the tear duct might be clogged. I would have the vet check it.

@Saving Thanks so much for the information! I am researching further and continuing with her rehab exercises as best I can. Glad you recovered from your spinal injuries.

To give you an idea of the contrast between Basenjis and Border Collies, my BC once spit out a pill, I said "Blackie" in a disapproving tone, and he picked it up from the floor and swallowed it!

I found the problem with my puppies swollen tee tee to be the hormones I was putting on my arms. She would bite and grab hold of my arms and I guess she was getting some of the hormones that way. I have stopped putting these on my arms and her tee tee is getting better and better.

@LovingLola: Thanks. I didn't know that they should see an opthamologist regularly. Yes, it is highly recommended, IMO for all breeds, but especially for ours that have eye problems. Like I said, once I have a base line that shows no problems, I don't have a problem with going every two years when in their prime. And it is not all that expensive at least not in the Bay Area and believe me, we are pretty pricey on Vet things….
