In the US most all dog parks do not allow intact males or females

Good to hear about the changes: my experience is that when I learn more about dogs, our dogs respond also. They must have a sense of what's going on inside you. As to the ears: I interpret it as submissive behaviour or in human terms, politeness. In play or dog interaction, it is a calming sign saying: "I'm just kidding, I'm not seriously fighting". Turid Rugaas has a lot to say about calming signals, very useful. Enjoy!

Out of interest, Maseru is just shy of 43cm tall, I don't know about Holly, but a Wazazi boy will likely be around the same. It's funny how small they can fold up, yet if you ever share the couch you'll never get more than an inch!

We do prey-model raw and mostly feed indoors for a variety of reasons. Animals are fed in their own areas in the utility room. The cats very quickly learned that we strictly defend their food in their places, but if they try to carry it away, the dog(s) get to take it. Our older (non-basenji) dog was never given the option to eat anywhere else except by special circumstance. In the event he gets a bone he can't finish in one sitting, we bag it up and put it in the fridge or the dog food freezer for another time. We mostly feed softer bones, though, so they're generally consumed in no more than an hour or two. Hard weight-bearing bones are bad for teeth. Our nifty new basenji's first raw meal will be in the morning, her first bones later this week!

The surgery to reopen the growth plate was 2 wks after the first surgery. We had x-rays 4 times in those two weeks to keep an eye on the growth plate condition. Her surgeon said that usually if the growth plate is going to close early, it will happen usually within 2 wks of the trauma

Welcome and congrats on your new addition! I'm no expert, but I would re-think neutering early. I would wait until the growth plates fully close and then neuter him. And I would not say that the breed is susceptible to attacking, though Basenjis can be reserved and cautious with strangers. Most are confident, loving dogs, when socialized. It's always good to keep an eye out for problems, however, and address any aggressive behaviors before they have a chance to escalate. Good luck with him!
